TRYING TOO HARD

Trying too hard
Hanging on tight
Won’t save you the heartache
The pain every night.

She’ll walk out regardless
It’s not about you
She has places to go
She has things to do.

The longing, the craving
Get ahold of yourself
Stop being so needy
Take care of yourself.

Whining and sulking
Makes you look so small
It’s not attractive
Not appealing at all.

Step back, step away
Find your center, your core
She’s not what you need
Stop asking for more.

Let go of the reigns
Cut the ties, cut the rope
You can’t hold her back
There is simply no hope.

You’re making it worse
The punishing, the shaming
It’s time to stop all the
Guilt and the blaming.

You can’t hold on
When she longs to be free
You’ve got to move on
To find what you need.

  1. Powerful – I like all the layers intended or not that you have managed to capture. I went from thinking she was me or she was just someone I lived with and then back again. Do you mind if I share your poem?

    1. Thank you! I’m here every day! Missed one day only! My son was visiting from Houston, Texas. I got distracted. and didn’t get to post one of the days that he was here. Always great to hear from you!
Hope you are doing well! ❤️
