HEADING HOME

Snakes and spiders, gators, and more
Palmetto bugs running round the floor
Rednecks with their flags held high
Won’t be so hard to say goodbye.

Too hot to have a barbecue
Can’t sit outside, just me and you
Sharks that stalk and swim  in the sea
Are in the water up to my knees.

Could lose a limb in one fell swoop
Without a leg, what would I do?
Could paramedics stop the bleeding
Get me the care that I’d  be needing?

Guns on hips or in one’s pocket
They have no reason to refrain or stop it
Feels just like the wild, wild west
It’s not for me, I must confess.

Packed and ready to head  up north
Back to my home, back to New York
It’s too hot here, I just can’t breathe
It’s time to go, it’s time to leave.
