Saw you walking into town
You stopped to buy a cup of coffee
Didn’t know that I was watching you
For a moment, you stood beside me.
I stepped back, to let you pass
Took your coffee to the river
You were sitting on an old, park bench
I saw you there…. sitting with her.
She was slender, maybe five feet tall
Her hair blonde and shoulder length
By the way that you reached out to her
It was clear…you were more than friends.
I envied the woman that caught your eye
Perhaps she’d won your heart
I hung around a little while
But, it was starting to get dark.
I wondered what it might be like
To spend the day with you
I’d seen you many times before
In the park, a time or two.
You appeared to be the kind of man
Someone I could admire
Well dressed, well versed, cordial, polite
I’ll admit, I was inspired.
You’re far too old, and I’m too young
To date someone your age
But fantasies, dreams, wishes and goals
Can begin in unusual ways.
