MORNING IN THE CITY

A siren in the distance
Overhead a bright blue sky
An impatient driver blows his horn
A child begins to cry.

Her mother tries to comfort her
A dog begins to bark
I pass a couple holding hands
I’m heading to the park.

The leaves are falling to the ground
I sit on a bench alone
Watching people passing by
Feel chilled right to the bone.

Should have worn my jacket
My sweatshirt’s not enough
Good thing I wore my winter cap
And a pair of leather gloves.

Could get a cup of coffee
There’s a cafe across the street
I think I’ll walk on over
That’s exactly what I need.

Morning in the city
The day has just begun
I ordered a cappuccino
And a fresh baked sticky bun.
