When I was just a little kid
There were no computers or I-phones
We talked face to face with friends
I never felt alone.
If it rained, we played board games
I loved Monopoly
We sat at our kitchen table
Molly, Evelyn and me.
We played outside till it got dark
We ran around all day
We never spoke the “F” word
Something we would never say.
Drank water from a garden hose
Had sleep overs with friends
Slept in tents in our backyards
Never wanted it to end.
Waiting for the ice cream truck
My dad gave me a quarter
I’d buy popsicles for all my friends
We were good to one another.
I had a bike with a banana seat
And V shaped handle bars
My dad brought home a telescope
So we could see the stars.
Picnics with the family
We had a cooler filled with cokes
Ate fried chicken my mama made
Laughed at my brother’s jokes.
My parents have since passed away
They’re in heaven up above
I was so lucky, yes I was …..
I was so truly, truly loved.
