CONTROL

Wrapped your arms around me
Made promises to me
Said I was the only one
I totally believed.

Kept me from my family
Held me back, pulled me away
Wanted my attention
I began to feel afraid.

No other friends or allies
No texts you didn’t see
I had nothing I could call my own
I lost my privacy.

Every word and every gesture
Meant the world to me
But, I started to feel trapped
I just wanted to be free.

In time I lost my luster
You  started to get bored
“Familiarity breeds contempt”
You then showed me the door.

Packed my bags, called me an Uber
Kissed me goodbye, told me you’d call
Couldn’t wait to close and lock the door
Being needy, my downfall.
