A TOUCH OF GRATITUDE

Simple consideration
A touch of gratitude
It’s not a lot to want or need
It should come straight from you.

Constant expectations
You seem so self absorbed
Never fully satisfied
Demanding so much more.

Passively aggressive
No shame or ownership
Quick to twist and ridicule
Never telling it …. like it is.

Larger than life…. the hype, the fanfare
A whirlwind of false pretense
If only I could understand
My role in this nonsense.

Your minions bow and curtsy
Looking for a treat, a bone
A simple morsel from you
But, you’d rather be alone.

Wrapped in a suit of armor
Layers from the truth
So many artful garments
Adorn the likes of you.

Have I just outgrown you?
I can’t ignore the way I feel
I’ve lost the inclination
To pacify or kneel.
