The guys that we encounter
In their pinstriped business suits
Drinking Makers on the rocks
Wearing black Ferragamo shoes.
In Finance or Engineering
With a degree from MIT
They’re looking for a Kardashian
That’s anyone, but me.
I waste my time on Friday nights
Drink Martinis with my friends
Every weekend is the same
I go home alone, again.
These guys are fast and furious
Some working on Wall Street
They live to score, that’s how they are
Not the type… I’d like to meet.
No morals or a conscience
That’s how they get ahead
All they really want to do
Is get you into bed.
Some of them are married
Out cheating on their wives
Have no problem bullshitting
They’re used to telling lies.
What I want is to get married
Buy a house and have some kids
I’m wasting time… here and now
So I left, that’s what I did.
On my way down to the subway
A man had caught my eye
We stood out on the platform
Alone, just he and I.
The clasp on my purse was broken
I dropped my keys and lipstick, too
He offered to help me, pick them up
He said, “Let me help you.”
“Want to get a cup of coffee?
There’s a diner on 53rd”
I nodded yes, then I smiled
Didn’t say another word.
Turned out he is a fireman
At the station near the club
We shared a cup of coffee
And at that moment, fell in love.
