SOMEBODY ELSE

She walks away
Nothing to say
She rolls her eyes
Then looks away.

Up and about
She’s getting dressed
Wondering why
She’s out of bed.

Combing her hair
Washing her face
Another drive-by
An unsolved case.

The thrill ….  the elation
The passion, the lust
Those carefree emotions
That used to be us.

Hit from behind
No advanced warning
Broken, disabled
A sudden disarming.

No rhyme or reason
No cry for help
A needed diversion
With somebody else.
