SENSELESS

A breach… through a side window
He found his way within
Dressed as an army soldier
His killing spree begins.

The frail, and lifeless bodies
Of five year old, young boys
Lay on the floor, not moving
Some reaching for their toys.

A girl walks thru the hallway
She’s nine or ten  years old
She started walking toward him
He shot her full of holes.

The teacher stood before him
Looking straight into his eyes
No defense and no protection
She began to shake and cry.

She watched alone in horror
He shot each one… one at a time
She panicked, started running
But she was next, the next in line.

There were thirty six young children
Senselessly all shot and killed
By a madman on a mission
He turned his gun on them, at will.

They were innocent and frightened
In shock would be my guess
Trying frantically to run and hide
Fearing that they would be next.

Bodies motionless, eviscerated
By a man holding  a gun
He  unloaded his chamber deliberately
Until he was finally  done.

Police came through the front door
Wearing bullet proof thick vests
They approached the lone assailant
It was a quick and swift arrest.

The carnage now before them
Made them sad ,  some even cried
No rhyme or possible reason
For these innocent children to die.
