It’s hard being without you
Nothing feels quite the same
I can’t help but wonder
Was it me …. was I to blame?
Things sometimes just happen
They’re not meant to be
Though I tried and I tried
You had stopped loving me.
Every secret we shared
In the night, in the dark
Those intimate moments
Left such a deep scar.
The candlelight dinners
Your alluring, sweet charm
The wine and the music
Being held in your arms.
The memories …. painful
Wish I knew what went wrong
I sit here and replay
Our favorite song.
The nuance, the newness
When two people first meet
That energy surge
Feels so good, it’s so sweet.
But, that dopamine high
Lasts for only so long
And, when it’s over
Things start to go wrong.
Time for a new hit
You look for that fix
Somebody new
Who can supply it.
Some call it love
But, it never lasts
Once it’s all over
Off comes the mask.
What you thought was true love
Has vanished, it’s gone
You have to accept it
It’s time to move on.
