THE NIGHT STORM

The howling wind  …. rattles the doors
The windows quiver, it’s starting to pour
It’s dark and eerie, I pull down the shades
I feel somewhat nervous, and somewhat afraid.

A flash of light with each bolt of lightening
The roar of thunder …. so loud, it’s frightening
The rhythmic taps on each window pane
Down it comes … the sleet and  the rain.

The curtains ….. a shield, a layer, a mask
Cover each window, no pullbacks or sash
Hoping the rain does not flood the street
The lake is rising…. as well as, the creek.

Creatures now burrowed deep in the woods
Would help them find shelter, if only I could
It’s going to be scary, a dark, windy night
Hope it stops raining, before morning light.

My flannels, my  blanket and a hot cup of tea
All that I want or currently need
Praying the storm will quickly pass by
I await the return of the clear, mountain sky.

Hoping the creek does not overflow
And, the sleet and the rain ….. don’t turn into snow
The wind will die down, eventually
It soon will pass by, I have faith … I believe.
