CARSICK

Out and about
Around every curve
Over the bumps
The turns and the swerves.

An increase in speed
A few sudden stops
My stomach is queezy
Hope I don’t throw up.

The straight and the narrow
The speed bumps ahead
The traffic light blinks
Suddenly it turns red.

The landscape quite hilly
Up and over the top
The braking abruptly
When you come to a stop.

The cameras recording
Your approach to the lights
Yellow means caution
Whether daylight or night.

That feeling of motion
Each time that you shift
Has gotten to me
I’m afraid that I’m sick.

Please stop, let me out
I’ll walk home from here
I’m afraid I just need
A breath of fresh air.

Please know that I’m grateful
For the ride in your car
But, I tend to get sick
When I travel too far.
