TWO TIMING

I ain’t got no time for you
No time for fun and games
I’m giving up on loving you
You can’t hurt me again.

Going to the liquor store
Gonna buy me a six pack
Hope you got the message, babe
Cause you ain’t coming back.

You’re not going to ” two time” me
No way, no how, no more
You’re not coming back again
I’ve closed and locked that door.

Sitting round the fire pit
Been sucking down some brews
Friends of mine still asking me
What the hell I saw in you.

You were at the local bar
Said you were coming home
You left me here all by myself
While you and her got stoned.

Tired of picking up your mess
While you’re out having fun
Sick and tired, I’m moving on
Baby, we are done.

You ain’t gonna “two time” me
Like you did before
You ain’t coming back again
Can’t hurt me anymore.

MAKE IT WORK

A simple fix
It’s up to you
Make it work
See it through.

Every morning
Just get dressed
There’s no pressure
Do your best.

Just push forward
See the light
Up ahead
Lightning strikes.

Find your passion
Find your joy
Don’t be doubtful
Don’t be coy.

Count the minutes
Flying by
Don’t wait too long
Don’t be so shy.

Step right up
Ring the belli
Come on out
Out of your shell.

A STORM

We had a lot of rain last night
It was really coming down
An unexpected thunderstorm
Blew everything around.

Leaves and branches found their way
Up on our front door steps
Scattered all around the yard
Creating quite a mess.

Our umbrella had blown away
Into our neighbor’s yard
Must have been quite powerful
The wind was blowing hard.

You loved to watch the lightning
Light up the sky at night
You didn’t mind the thunder
You loved the streaks of light.

A bit of fascination
A rush, perhaps a thrill
It made you feel excited
You said, ” It always will.”

BE A FLOWER…. NOT A WEED

After all that you’ve been through.
Still so hard to get along
Nothing gets a “pass” a “by”
Quick to point out what is wrong.

Everyone’s uncomfortable
You’re both hard to be around
All the constant bickering
Why put each other down?

Where’s the warmth, the comfort?
What you’re doing’s not enough
Why not try a little harder?
Show some kindness, give some love.

Be there for each other
Life is fleeting, short at best
We’re not getting any younger
Stop the rage, give it a rest.

A calm, safe, peaceful haven
That’s all you really need
A soothing word, a gentle touch
Be a flower, not a weed.

SOUP’S ON THE STOVE

Why don’t you stop over
For some coffee and cake?
Bring over some donuts
A coke or milkshake.

There’s soup, enough for 20
If we need to, I’ll make more
We’ll add two cups of water
if it spills, I’ll mop the floor.

Why all the frantic caution?
You’re seem so paranoid
Watching the clock intently

When did the doorbell
Become cause for alarm?
Put us in a frenzy
Like a violent rain storm?

Seems like you’re annoyed.

Come sit down at the table
I’ll set you a place
Loosen up your necktie
Do you want to wash your face?

Turn off your computer
Unplug all of your games
Learn to converse with others
Use your heart, then use your brain.

Be kind to all your neighbors
If and when they do stop in
We need to be more sociable
We need to have good friends.

A WALK IN THE PARK

Sidetracked, deterred
So hard for you
Too much to say
Too much to do.

“A walk in the park”
Should be nothing less.
Why is it so hard?
Should be effortless.

A minefield, a battle
Too hard to get through
Everyday it gets worse
So hard loving you.

I try to be thoughtful
Always putting you first
But, you want too much
You’re simply the worst!

Nothing I’ve done
Was ever enough
No matter what
It’s been “you”, never “us!”

DON’T WAKE THE DRAGON

A small device, a trigger
One simple small mistake
A careless indiscretion
Is all it really takes.

A time bomb in the making
Steer clear away from me
I can’t take much pressure
You should let me be.

Like a pot that simmers
It won’t take me long to boil
Turn up the heat, increase the flame
Then watch the cobra coil.

One swift strike is fatal
No time for turning back
The venom surges thru me
Within seconds, I’ll attack.

I can’t control the turmoil
That lives inside my head
The constant brewing madness
Will be with me, till I’m dead.

So, please don’t wake the dragon
I’m sounding the alarm
Best you should avoid me
I’m a raging thunderstorm.

A DIRTY LITTLE SECRET

Unaware you had a secret
Didn’t mean to share with us
Unconsciously you talked it up
Then left in such a rush.

Nervously you rambled
One word leading to another
You talked about your sister
Hardly mentioned your kid brother .

Connecting all the dots
We can read between the lines
We found the clues, there were a few
It didn’t take much time.

A dirty little secret
Had been swept under the rug
Hardly worth concealing
His kid brother had done drugs.

Nothing heavy duty
He had smoked a little pot
Is this really all that serious?
Is this really …. all you’ve got?

Should we stop intruding?
Stop getting so involved?
Maybe, but it feels so good
When the mystery is solved.

A PERFECT SUNNY DAY

The sun streams through the window
An uninvited guest
Bears the gift of sunlight
I am grateful, feeling blessed.

The smell of coffee brewing
It’s time, I should get up
My morning stimulation
Yes, pour me another cup.

A gentle, quiet morning
Perhaps I’ll have a scone
No interest in escaping
Or looking at my phone.

Come sit out on the porch with me
Smell the lilacs, they’re in bloom
Love our flower garden
Smell the scent of sweet perfume.

The butterflies, the bumble bees
We watch their day begin
Flitting here, flitting there
Taking it all in.

Such a lovely portrait
A gallery, display
A picture perfect morning
On this perfect sunny day.

A PLACE TO STAY

Litter noted in the park
Bottles, cans and rags
Liquor, soda, juice and straws
Empty plastic bags.

Who leaves their butts, then walks away?
No second thoughts that matter
The filters, papers on the ground
No etiquette or manners.

“No Smoking In The Park!”
The sign clear and concise
Those who light up anyway
Are not so very nice.

Junkies, druggies, vagabonds
Hang out daily in the park
Spend their time getting high
Still there when it gets dark.

Not a place where kids can play
Cops seldom come around
A used syringe, a tourniquet
Might find one on the ground.

Park benches for the homeless
They sleep during the day
The shelters often crowded
Hard to find a place to stay.
