RUNNING SCARED

Why do you run, from here to there?
Why so frantic, why so scared?
Why the need to push so hard?
Always putting up your guard.

I ask you out…. but you have plans
You pull away, because you can
You’re in a hurry, you’re out the door
Don’t want to see me, anymore.

You can’t commit, you  have to work
Too afraid.…you might get hurt
“Let’s meet for dinner, let’s sit and chat”
You don’t have time, you can’t do that.

You can’t confirm,  your schedule’s full
You live on coffee and rocket fuel
You can’t relax, you’re on the go
Got tickets for.…the evening show.

On the run… both day and night
Always feeling …. so uptight
You’re heading to, or coming from
Another day…. out in the sun.

So many places.…you want to see
You’re too tapped out, you’re never free
You’re always tired,  you’re stretched too thin
Can’t take a chance, the day will end.

The scattered pieces of your life
Filled with heartache, filled with strife
Too hard to manage, can’t take a chance
You’ve given up, on sweet romance.

Guys kept at bay, can’t get too close
They quickly learn… that  you’re a ghost
It’s your MO, to disappear
They get the hint, the message clear.

You feel so anxious, always wired
Wonder why…. you’re so damn tired
Hard to get  ….. to speak to you
You can’t sit still, too much to do.

Put on the brakes, should take it slow
Don’t always need.… somewhere to go
Calm down, relax… what’s this about?
Guess you’re afraid.…you might miss out.

HOTDOGS

Why can’t I enjoy a hotdog?
One with mustard, chili and cheese
Perhaps just some sauerkraut
Some relish or ketchup, please.

Don’t want to be reminded
About the essential nutrients
Or all the various animal parts
The 10 or 30 ingredients.

Just want to grab a hotdog
A quick snack or dinner, too
Warm up a can of pork n beans
That’s what I want to do.

The taste and feel of a hotdog
Brings back great memories
Baseball at the stadium
With just my dad and me.

Seats filled to full capacity
All the fun and the excitement
Hotdogs, fries, popcorn and drinks
All part of the thrill and enticement.

They have so many snacks at games
So many to choose from
Hotdogs, Fritos, Potato Chips
Ice Cream and even gum.

Yes, we know hotdogs aren’t healthy
That’s a fact, it’s crystal clear
But, they sure taste great at Baseball games
With an iced cold glass of beer.

GRAND THEFT AUTO

His  car is wrapped in canvas
It’s worth a  100 K
Can’t leave it on the street, as is
They’ll take his car away.

Car thieves by the dozens
Trolling, looking for
A Land Rover or Tesla
Perhaps a new Audi class 4.

Forget the Fords or Chevys
They are a hassle, a dead end
A Toyota or a Honda, though
Now, they bring the money in.

The garage somewhat amazing
Six guys to each and every car
They strip it down for the parts
Or intact… sell as they are.

Takes them twenty minutes
They are masters of their trade
They know what to junk or cover up
They know just what to save.

If your car is stolen
Call the Police immediately
If you can act fast enough
They could halt  delivery.

They swap out the new engine
Can change the Vin, at will
They are very talented
They are extremely skilled.

Grand theft auto, often glamorized
A business run by thieves
A money making enterprise
They can get just what you need.

Customers pay a fortune
For cars at dealerships
The only people driving luxury cars
Are the extremely, amazingly rich?

Unless you know a felon
Now he could hook you up
I’ll take a Mercedes SUV
I’ll fly cross country, to pick it up.

Don’t want to get arrested
Can get up to twenty years
Depending on a given state
Most criminal’s biggest fear.

Bottom line don’t get caught
If you do, keep your mouth shut
Never want to cooperate
Don’t ever give them up!

Do your time, keep quiet
Your family will be safe
Just like in the Sopranos
Your family’s treated great.

Don’t attempt to stop a car theft
No, not by yourself
Call the 911 help line
For police and professional help.

MY NORTH STAR

Just tell me why
She didn’t love me
You watched me cry
I’m begging you, please!

Just tell me why
My heart’s been broken
Tell me now
I’m on my knees.

I needed her
You always knew that
She wasn’t yours
To take away.

Though confused
I did believe you
It was clear
I couldn’t stay.

Please tell me now
Was it on purpose?
Was it all
Part of a plan?

Can’t believe
You’d be so heartless
I want so much
To understand.

My North Star
Obliterated
You were the one
I looked up to.

Lives were ruined
In that moment
Turned upside down
Because of you.

What was your motive?
Your reason for
Breaking my heart
There must be more.

So devastated
I up and left
On my way home
I sadly wept.

Now decades later
You are long gone
I’m left to face
What I did wrong.

No point in sharing
Some secrets kept
They need protecting
From breach or theft.

A MASTER PLAN

What’s wrong with the republicans?
Paralyzed with fear
Watching them kiss his ass
Is bringing me to tears.

Tearing down the government
Watching people lose their jobs
Agencies  eviscerated
When will this madness stop?

No courage, couth or honor
Their loyalty misplaced
They need to be eliminated
They need to be replaced.

A global joke, a clown show
Wrecking havoc everywhere
Countries once our ally
Are now frankly running scared.

The stock market.…now plunging
Spiraling out of our control
Savings, pensions, benefits
Flushed down the toilet bowl.

A master plan for billionaires
A low buyback for the rich
Buying up our real estate
We’re heading for a ditch.

He is not the mastermind
Look to Saudi and Russia, too
Project 20.… 25
Blueprints for a fucking coup.

A NEW ROMANCE

She powders her nose
She combs her hair
She walks on by
You stop and stare.

She’s pretty, she’s cute
The perfect physique
You’re gawking, you’re staring
Like some kind of freak.

Somewhat unaware
She didn’t see you
How can you meet her?
What can you do?

She owns a boutique
Sells clothes and shoes
Hats and jewelry
Nothing for you.

A jealous husband
Six foot two?
Might get upset
What would you do?

But, just make a point
Of looking around
Tell her you moved
You just moved to town.

Check out her finger
She could be engaged
Could have a boyfriend
Who might get enraged.

Good news ….there’s no ring
You’re free to pursue
Ask her to lunch
Or to dinner with you.

If she says… yes
Then you have a chance
Could be the beginning
Of a new found romance.

NO SECOND THOUGHTS

Know what you want
No doubt about it
You take it all
Can’t do without it.

No second thoughts
No guilt or pain
You change the locks
Forget their name.

No time to chat
To talk it through
When you are done
That’s it for you.

You have a plan
Know what to say
Nobody can
Get in your way.

Money matters
So does title
You take the lead
Control the bridle.

You set the stage
Arrange the plot
You look around
See what she’s got.

You make demands
They jump so high
Have no idea
It’s all a lie.

Karma falters
The devil wins
I know so well
That evil grin.

TRUST

Been down this road before
Oversharing can be dangerous
You say you want to know me
But, this journey can be perilous.

Treading lightly, moving slowly
I am cautious, there’s no rush
This could take a good long while
It takes time to build up trust.

Every secret is a treasure
You impart to someone else
Think twice, before you share it
Should you keep it to yourself?

Takes years to get to know someone
Someone you call, “a friend”
They’re by your side forever
Right to the very end.

Ups and downs, Ins and outs
You weather every storm
When you feel cold and lonely
They’re there to keep you warm.

Can’t be too guarded or mistrusting
Some people will pretend
Just be hesitant, be cautious
Before, you let them in.

AN ADDICTION

Don’t waste your time
Don’t sit and cry
When she decides
To say, “Good Bye”.

It’s dopamine
It’s nothing  more
You have to know
What she came for.

She lies to you
Gets what she wants
She’s learned what works
The rocket’s launched.

She flirts, she smiles
Takes off her clothes
That’s all it takes
That’s all she knows.

One of many
She has touched
She’ll take it all
She craves so much.

Reclaim your strength
Turn things  around
Get your feet
Back on the ground.

She’s using you
She did before
You’ll watch her go
She’ll close the door.

Her bread is buttered
By someone else
She wants the money
She needs his help.

You’ve got to know
This isn’t fair
She knows you’re hurt
She doesn’t care.

HUDSON RIVER PARK

The ice along the water’s edge
Has all but, disappeared
Leaves and sticks branches, too
Washed up and landed here.

The rain and waves will wash away
Debris around the rocks
Piled up along the shoreline
Near the boatlaunch and the dock.

Not quite warm enough, just yet
But, soon summer will arrive
The muskrats have returned, as well
So glad they’re still alive.

Young boys fishing with their dads
Seen casting out their lines
A great way to spend a sunny day
Great way to spend their time.

Children playing, family picnics
Several people in the park
Crew members working on their boats
Too soon it will get dark.

Looking out across the water
Watching as the sun goes down
A perfect sunset, a perfect day
Now, time to head back …. into town.
