Horrific, insane
The fire raging through
Nothing can stop it
Not much they can do.
Houses destroyed
Family treasures are lost
Those in its path
Are intensely distraught.
Drought plays a role
The landscape is dry
Some couldn’t escape
Some were hurt, some have died.
The firefighters doing
The best that they can
Fighting a blaze
Taking over the land.
A roaring inferno
Engulfing houses and cars
There’s smoke in the air
Clouds are dark, black as tar.
Hot embers and soot
The crackling sounds
The heat so intense
It’s burning the ground.
Residents warned
Take all you can carry
This fire is destructive
Unimaginably scary.
Years to rebuild
What took years to acquire
Such destruction and damage
From a massive, fierce fire.
Prayers being said
Going to be a long night
The fire is still raging
It’s a battle .… a fight.
Hoping by morning
It hits the chill zone
Though the fire has a life
A will of its own.
Crushed and defeated
Extinguished and squelched
Send it back where it started
Send it straight back to hell.
