TOO MUCH CHOCOLATE

Six Sentence Story Prompt: KICK

I gotta kick the habit, of eating too much chocolate.

Too many bags around the house, containing quite a lot of it.

Some hidden in the cupboard drawer, the kind I keep behind closed doors!

The ones with nuts, the ones with raisins are the ones that I’ve been craving.

I need to share …. yes I do, some for me and some for you.

Hard to stop …. to give it up , when just one piece is not enough.

UP IN SMOKE

Plays his guitar
Sings and croons
Sitting there
Beneath the moon.

A dulling calm
He takes it in
Up in smoke
It’s going to end.

Years of waste
His talent wanes
As time goes on
Things stay the same.

Nothing more
Than getting high
So sad to watch
As time flies by.

From 35
To 65
The slow demise
Will kill this guy.

No reason
It’s illogical
Desire for fame
Debatable.

Tells himself
He plays, it’s art
He knows it all
He’s really smart.

Too smart to see
His fate is sealed
So sad to watch
It’s so surreal.

CRUSTY

Feeling tired, low energy
No Mojo to speak of
Whatever effort I can make
Should surly be enough.

In the bed, on the couch
Just want to lay back down
No need to be with friends or foe
So please don’t come around.

Pull down the shades, turn off the lights
Leave the TV on
Leave the package on the porch
And please stay off my lawn.

Too much to do, can’t bear the thought
Just want to be alone
Don’t want to try to muster up
The will to leave my home.

So sick of conversations
Meaningless and trite
Another noble gesture
By someone I don’t like.

The cafes and the restaurants
Whose prices are sky high
Leave me no alternative
But, to pass them by.

Eating out …. once pleasurable
Is now a gambling game
Who’s positive for Covid?
Who’ll be the one to blame?

The waitress has the sniffles
Why won’t she wear a mask?
Afraid to tell the customers?
I have the right to ask.

Best to eat what I prepare
I know where I have been
Won’t worry about the viruses
Infecting me again.

My soup is warming on the stove
I have a loaf of bread
Crusty, warm and tasty
Goes great with olive spread.

A BIT OF MAGIC

PROMPT: MAGIC

Out of a notion
A prayer, nothing more
There you appeared
You stood at the door.

Perhaps an illusion
Perhaps a dream
Sent down from

the heavens
Upon a moonbeam.

The magic, the shimmer
The look in your eyes
Overwhelmed with delight
I started to cry.

A hand full of tokens
Some vapor and mist
A hope meant to conjure
A miracle, a wish.

I knew that you’d come
I waited, I knew
I knew it would happen
I knew I’d see you.

As I imagined
A vision of light
I hoped and I prayed
With all of my might.

Got to tell you…. I loved you
Got to tell you…. I cared
I wasn’t afraid
I was happy, not scared.

You didn’t stay long
But, a minute or two
I was grateful, so happy
To spend time with you.

SUMMER STOCK

SIX SENTENCE PROMPT: STOCK

Summer stock meant so much to me,
though never asked to perform, I was still quite happy.
I passed out the programs, showed guests to their seats, and then offered them soda, candy, and treats.
One night, I was shocked when they called out my name. They said, “You’re going on, here’s your hat and your cane.”
I woke the next morning to such rave reviews.
To my surprise, my dream had come true.

SNOWFALL

It started as a dusting
Now a blanket on the ground
Quietly out of the sky
It fell without a sound.

The twinkling, the glimmering
Each flake unlike the others
Perfectly, intentionally
They fell upon another.

The crisp night air upon my face
So refreshing, invigorating
The crunch I felt beneath my boots
Amusingly stimulating.

One foot high , maybe two
Exceeding the forecast
We’re off to meet the challenge now
I knew we’d have a blast!

Agreed to meet at 12 a.m.
A midnight rendezvous
The night was still, the wind died down
We brought our inner tubes.

Up the hill, we made our way
The moon a natural light
A running start, then off we go
Our tubes would soon take flight.

The chill , the thrill … just can’ t compare
Was a night we won’t forget.
We headed home at 2 a.m.
With cheeks …. a rosy red.

THE SORCERESS

Who knows …. what you have up your sleeve?
Nothing there that I might need.
Tricks and schemes, slight of hand
Pours out of you …. like grains of sand.

Every move that you make
Is not sincere, I know it’s  fake
Anything to get ahead
Out to take ….  what you  can get.

Nothing I can do to stop it
You’ve got tricks, they’re in your pocket
Trinkets, tokens, beads and bells
No valuables that I can tell.

Flirtatious , winsome, flattering
Always seem so welcoming
Pulls you in, turns you out
That’s what she is all about.

Must stay alert, must be aware
Be on my guard, but not be scared
Fear, an aphrodisiac
A calling card, sure to attract.

A keen sense, so slick, so shrewd
A calculating attitude
A cunning , charming sorceress
Will do my best, try to resist.

THE DAFFODILS

The flowers surfaced
Though winter still
The ground gave way
Against its will!

Still cold and hard
A dusting of snow
The daffodils found
Somewhere to go.

Up through the ground
They found their way
A flowering sprout
Just made my day.

The air is brisk
They must be cold
Standing there
Beside the road.

A sight to see
To inspire
Winter now
Will soon retire.

A glimpse of Spring
A sight to see
Two daffodils
Such joy, such glee.

PICK IT UP

Hate to complain, but have to
Can’t take it anymore
Our neighbors let their dog out
Off leash, outside their door.

The dog needs to relieve himself
He  poops  most everywhere
They should pick up after him
This really isn’t fair.

We take our dog down to the park
We pick up after her
We try and be considerate
Don’t  want to cause a stir.

But, things are getting out of hand
Last night I stepped in shit
So sorry to be so darn blunt
But, really tired of this.

My roommate is Italian
She can’t take it anymore
She wants to get a horses’ head
Place it outside their door.

Guess she’s seen THE GODFATHER
One too many times
Thinks they need a warning
I’ve got to change her mind.

We did complain to Management
Hasn’t done us any good
They haven’t made an effort, yet
Although we think they should.

We share a stone filled courtyard
No grass is there to grow
The poop is filling up our space
It has nowhere to go.

Like walking through a landmine
We try to watch for turds
Our neighbors seem oblivious
I’m at a loss for words.

Don’t want a confrontation
We want to get along
A good thing that our lease is up
In a week …. we will be gone.
