HOT AND HEAVY

We danced all night
Got hot and heavy
I felt the heat
Was feeling sweaty.

The music stopped
Was half past three
She took my hand
“Come home with me!”

We drank some wine
We burned some candles
Took off our clothes
Kicked off our sandals.

No second thoughts
I jumped right in
Went in… head first
Knew I could swim.

Was comfortable
Aligned, in sync
I didn’t need
To pause, or think.

The hours passed
Now intertwined
She looked at me
Her eyes met mine.

Was overwhelmed
As in slow motion
Her body moved
So much emotion.

I held her close
So close to me
Kissed her good night
Then fell asleep.

HACKED

That first kiss was all it took
You were so hot, it was so good
Lost my mind, gave in to you
Nothing left for me to do.

Shut away, locked the door
Laid in bed…. wanting, more
Used me up, then let me go
No second chance, you just said, “NO!”

Brokenhearted , devastated
I thought if I kept calm and waited
You’d want me back, you’d call me up
But it was clear, you had enough.

A major player, so much charm
You didn’t need to twist my arm
I fell so hard, I lost my head
Spent the day and night in bed.

An open book, an easy mark
All it took was just one spark
Convinced that you could walk on water
That’s how it was, until we parted.

Shown the door, returned your key
I knew that you were done with me
You led me on, you set the trap
I was duped, yes….I was hacked.

A WINTER WALK

A winter walk
Coats and gloves
Boots and scarves
Grey sky above.

Cloudy and dark
Expected to rain
Perhaps it might
Just snow again.

Corduroy pants
A flannel shirt
A sweater, a vest
And my leather purse.

A cup  of hot chocolate
With added cream
The ice on the trees
The glimmer, the sheen.

A walk thru the park
A cold winter’s day
I sat on a bench
Watched the squirrels run and play.

Out and about
A walk on my own
Nice to get out
Soon… heading back home.

NO ALIBI

I should have known
I shouldn’t be here
It was my choice
Or so it appears.

The look on her face
So intense, so extreme
I started to panic
This wasn’t a dream.

The constant barrage
The judgement , the blame
I made a mistake
So sorry I came.

I wanted to run
I wanted to hide
My heart was pounding
I started to cry.

She never let up
I had no  defense
Nothing about this
Made any  sense.

No way to reason
With distortion and lies
In over my head
With no alibi.

JUST GETTING BY

Thinking  about you
Wondering why
You’re content with so little
Enough to get by.

Money for rent
Money for weed
You do what you can
To get what you need.

You smoke and you drink
While you play your guitar
Not looking for gigs
Satisfied where you are.

Should go to LA
Connect with the scene
Make some new friends
Follow your dreams.

You need motivation
You could make it, you could
You’ve got talent and looks
You’re way better than good.

I sit and admire
The way that you play
But,  you need to be driven
To make it today.

CHERISHED MEMORIES

Memories of childhood
Sleigh riding down the hill
Coming home with rosy cheeks
Snow on the window sill.

Boots and coats , mittens too
A scarf to keep us warm
We’d  sit beside the window
Awaiting a snowstorm.

The leaves glistening in the moonlight
Inside a cozy fire
My mother in the kitchen
After sledding we were tired.

A pot of soup on the stove
The smell of homemade bread
We’d  gather round the table
Have some soup, then off to bed.

Awaiting Santa’s visit
All the presents and the toys
Filled our house with laughter
So much happiness and joy.

My father home from work late
Would come  up to say, “Good Night”
Tells us that he loved us
Then he’d turn off all the lights.

Good to look back, remembering
The way it used to be
To reminisce …. to smile again
To cherish memories.

MORNING IN THE CITY

A siren in the distance
Overhead a bright blue sky
An impatient driver blows his horn
A child begins to cry.

Her mother tries to comfort her
A dog begins to bark
I pass a couple holding hands
I’m heading to the park.

The leaves are falling to the ground
I sit on a bench alone
Watching people passing by
Feel chilled right to the bone.

Should have worn my jacket
My sweatshirt’s not enough
Good thing I wore my winter cap
And a pair of leather gloves.

Could get a cup of coffee
There’s a cafe across the street
I think I’ll walk on over
That’s exactly what I need.

Morning in the city
The day has just begun
I ordered a cappuccino
And a fresh baked sticky bun.

SENTIMENTAL

Always sentimental
She saved every ticket stub
Every bow and ribbon
Tiny spoon and baby cup.

Framed every school age picture
As I was growing up
Showered me with accolades
Encouragement and love.

Listened while I practiced
Every morning for the band
I tried to play the trumpet
She was my biggest fan.

Came to every home game
Always cheered me on
I never had an inkling
That anything was wrong.

I ran track my senior year
Developed my first crush
I told her that I met a girl
And liked her very much.

We went to our senior prom
And college locally
After graduation
I asked her to marry me.

We had two small children
Before mom had passed away
They loved their Granny so much
They were the highlight of her day.

Now I post my children’s photos
And have a box of souvenirs
I go to all their plays and games
Like  mom did all those years.

Never thought I was sentimental
But, I  guess you would agree
I’m trying to do  for  my kids
All the things mom did for me.

TOUCH THE SKY

Spirits soar
Flying high
Pick me up
To touch the sky.

Every thought
I have of you
Inspiring me
To follow through.

Above the sun
Beside the moon
I listen for
The stars to croon.

The words , the tone
The melody
They sing their songs
Their songs for me.

Just relax
And float on high
The only way
To touch the sky.

I hear their voices
Harmonize
So beautiful
They make me cry.

A joyful cry
Of gratitude
So lucky
To be here with you.

FRIENDS

Friends for years
Seems like forever
Was always fun
When we’re together.

But laughter now
At my expense
Has lost its charm
Now makes me cringe.

Insecure
You have the need
To make me hurt
To watch me bleed.

I try too hard
You know I care
But you aren’t nice
And seldom fair.

You start to laugh
When I speak
Cut me off
Embarrass me.

Kindness means
Nothing  to you
You ridicule
The things I do.

Always there
I do for you
At your command
My servitude.

But, ushered out
When guests arrive
Not on the list
I don’t know why.

No PhD
Or Professorship
To brag about
Or to flirt with.

But things have changed
I see through you
Don’t like the things
I see you do.

Years have passed
And still I see
You have no true
Respect for me.
