PARTY PREP

Tread lightly, wear your slippers
Pick up your feet, take off your boots
I cleaned and swept the living room
The foyer and hallway, too.

The clutter on the counter
All the dishes have to go
The pots , the pans, the colander
Make way for TRADER JOE’S.

The bags there on the table
Won’t put themselves away
Help me with the groceries
I’ve had a busy day.

The store was full of people
It was hard to get around
They had chocolate covered fruit and nuts
They sold them by the pound.

Bought very little meat this time
The prices through the roof
The cost of butter, milk and eggs
Was really high there, too.

Anyway, best get “a move on”
Company will be here soon
I’ve got a lot to prepare
You can start with the balloons.

Bought a Birthday party banner
And a lovely chocolate cake
So glad they have a bakery
Less that I’ll have to make.

Need to hurry … let’s get busy
We have a lot to do
So glad that you are helping me
So thankful I have you.

JUST ONE

Just takes one
To fuck it up
It just won’t work
No matter what.

You try your best
Not good enough
They’ll take you down
They’re cold, they’re tough.

Standing by
Got eyes on you
Taking notes
A page or two.

The trap is set
You’re unaware
You’ve been deceived
You thought they cared.

Quick to sink
Their claws in you
Who knew just what
They planned to do?

Out in the cold
There all alone
They couldn’t  wait
Till you were gone.

Just takes one
To steal your joy
Their mission clear
Seek and destroy.

WANNA BET?

Chips on the table
No alibis
Facing the truth
The cards never lie.

A roll of the dice
Some low and some high
A bet and a gamble
You just have to try.

Anxious, elated
Your fingers are crossed
So devastated
The times that you lost.

Over and over
Again and again
No way you could stop it
So sure you would win.

You lost your shirt
Your self respect
You took a chance
You placed the bet.

You know it’s a risk
But, you’d do it again
Given the chance
You’d go for the win.

An addiction, a habit
A sickness, disease
The desire to take chances
An obsession, a need.

The height of the moment
The thrill and the rush
Winner takes all
But, it’s never enough.

THE NIGHT STORM

The howling wind  …. rattles the doors
The windows quiver, it’s starting to pour
It’s dark and eerie, I pull down the shades
I feel somewhat nervous, and somewhat afraid.

A flash of light with each bolt of lightening
The roar of thunder …. so loud, it’s so frightening
The rhythmic taps on each window pane
Down it comes … the sleet and the rain.

The curtains ….. a shield, a layer, a mask
Cover each window, no pullbacks or sash
Hoping the rain does not flood the street
The lake is rising…. as well as, the creek.

Creatures now burrowed deep in the woods
Would help them find shelter, if only I could
It’s going to be scary, a dark, windy night
Hope it stops raining, before morning light.

My flannels, my  blanket and a hot cup of tea
All that I want or currently need
Praying the storm will quickly pass by
I await the return of the clear, mountain sky.

Hoping the creek does not overflow
And, the sleet and the rain ….. don’t turn into snow
The wind will die down, eventually
It soon will pass by, I have faith … I believe.

MOVING ON

Out in the cold
She’ll leave you there
She’ll never look back
Cause she doesn’t care.

Status and class
A wrung on the ladder
Always  looking for something
Something else that is better.

Money, desire
A car that she  wants
A seat at the table
A new restaurant.

Out with the old
In with the new
Once she gets bored
She’ll grow tired of you.

Time to move on
She’ll  find someone else
She’ll turn on the charm
Doesn’t need any help.

Hard to keep up
She has A D D
You’ll do your best
But, she’ll want to be free.

Don’t blame yourself
If she’s somewhat distracted
She won’t sit and wait
She is very proactive.

She gets what she wants
Whatever it takes
Her interest is money
How much do you make?

Could buy you some time
A month maybe two
But, once she is ready
She’ll get rid of you.

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

I’m sad and I’m frustrated
Can’t get through to you
You’ve crossed the line, you’ve closed your mind
Don’t want to hear the truth.

Once a faithful, devout Catholic
Now following TV evangelists
The programs that you’re watching
Promote White Christian Nationalists.

You’ve become a willing participant
You refuse to see the light
Convinced by TV preachers
What they say is always right.

Were you not a fan of Charlie Kirk?
He himself warned us about Netanyahu
He is considered by most a war criminal
But, you  believe only what you want to.

The obliteration of hospitals
Apartment buildings and schools
Was not at the hands of the terrorists
It was the infamous… Netanyahu.

He’s blamed the conflict with Hamas
But, it really was him all along
He’s attacked the people of Palestine
What he’s doing is ethically wrong.

Long before the kidnappings by Hamas
He and Trump had made a pact
Trump supplied the money and weapons
They wanted the land and that’s a fact.

In war there are rules of engagement
It’s known what can or cannot be touched
Bibi Netanyahu ignored the rules
Because he wanted their land so much.

Bibi will step over anyone
For power, money and position
He is not a man of God or faith
Please stop what you’re doing and listen.

The heart of the Palestinian Nation
Is under the rubble, being left for dead
Bibi withheld food, water and medical supplies
That’s what your own Charlie Kirk had said.

It’s believed the Israelis killed Charlie
He was killed for telling the truth
Money funneled between the U.S. and Israel
Is being supported by people like you.

The plan is to take over Palestine
The holy land will become a resort
Nothing is going to stop them
No magistrate or criminal court.

The plan was conceived  over two years ago
Just ask Jared Kushner, Trump’s son in law
Stop fantasizing about your religIon
It has nothing to do with this … at all.

The Palestinians have a right to their own land
They’ve been uprooted because of money and greed
The land that Jesus once walked upon
Will become a golf course, wait and see.

A note about the small boats out of Venezuela
Trump has given the order to blow them to bits
No Legal “Search and Seizure”
No…. Trump wants no part of this.

Blood’s on his hands and in his heart
Are you also on board with this?
God did not condone cold blooded murder
Which, my friend ….is just what this is!

You’re told it’s about drugs and drug dealers
I say it’s about oil on their land
Trump wants to invade and conquer
He has an ulterior plan.

Don’t fixate on simple explanations
Don’t believe what they want you to
Just look at what they are doing
Is this really what Jesus would do?

THE PSYCHIC

Say…. what’s your spirit animal?
Are you a Capricorn?
Got a hunch, a feeling
Think I  know … where you were born.

Some say that I’m a  psychic
I have visions in my mind
Could be hallucinations
Of a very special kind.

I see you with a woman
She has long, red, wavy hair
Standing in the garden
Do you remember being there?

She was planting purple crocuses
While you played in the dirt
You had on …your overalls
She wore a crimson skirt.

Your dog sat right beside you
His name I can’t recall
Was it “Rex” or maybe “Buster”?
Yes, I think you called him, “Paul”.

The young girl turned and looked surprised
Yes, she called her dog…. “Sir Paul”
How could the woman know this?
Was she psychic, after all?

“But, I am not a Capricorn
You didn’t get that right”
Could be …. you’re on the cusp, my dear
But, I’m not here to fight.

You called the woman, “Memaw”
I can see … she has your eyes
She was tall and thin just like you
She sang you lullaby’s.

The young woman took my hand in hers
Please, please …. please tell me more
Is she up in heaven?
Do you know she’s safe, for sure?

Yes, she’s happy , but she misses you
She didn’t get to say … goodbye
Wants you to know that she’s alright
And, was at peace the day she died.

Sends her love and admiration
For the woman you’ve become
She wants you to be happy
To rejoice and to have fun.

A vision doesn’t last too long
The woman politely explained
They come and go , they’ve been
and gone
Bringing sunshine with the rain.

Today…. a celebration
With a  message to convey
You really should be happy
Though your Memaw went away.

She is resting, she feels grateful
For the time she spent with you
Hold tight to all your memories
That’s all you need to do.

CAUGHT….

Thrown under the bus
Turfing the blame
Who is at fault?
The name of the game.

Afraid to come clean
The panic sets in
You’re in denial
Wasn’t me…it was him.

Over the top
Out of control
Nothing you’re selling
Will ever get sold.

Egg on your face
You’re caught in a lie
Nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide.

Stop what you’re doing
Time to fess up
You should know better
Don’t try and blame us.

Stop finger pointing
Own up, tell the truth
Admit that you did it
We know it was you.

COMFORT FOOD

A bowl of soup
To calm your soul
Comfort food
Served hot or cold.

Ice cream, cake
A cup of coffee
A box of candy
Truffles or toffee.

A cup of hot chocolate
With cream or Fluff
Some Mac n cheese
Might be enough.

A tummy full
Eases the mind
Clears your thoughts
Erases mine.

A root beer float
French fries, perhaps
Some grease, some sugar
Can make you fat.

Chips on the couch
With TV on
Some onion dip
Your cares…. be gone!

Crumbs on the cushions
Some on the floor
If you feel sad
Just have some more.

Take to the bed
With Cheetos and Coke
Don’t eat too fast
You don’t want to choke.

A sugar coma
 Sadly induced
Too many carbs
Not good for you.

A breakup, a breakdown
The loss of a job
A bad interview
Or a date with a snob.

You got it covered
Relax, take it slow
Order some pizza
With meatballs to go.

HAPPENSTANCE

A once in a lifetime
A look, a mere glance
A moment so rare
Was it happenstance?

Your hand in mine
In rhythm, in sync
Captured, conveyed
In a smile, in a blink.

Standing so close
The look in your eyes
The heat of desire
Temperatures rise.

Your lips upon mine
The longest slow kiss
Nothing so deep
Nothing like this.

Charmed, elated
Brought to my knees
Begging for more
More than a tease.

Dreams of forever
Hoped it would last
Time passing by
A little too fast.

Seizing the day
Holding on tight
Every hour
Of every night.

A treasure, a blessing
A gift from above
There in the moonlight
We fell in love.
