A DISTANT MEMORY

I’m being held captive
By a distant memory
No matter what I try to do
I can’t seem to break free.

You left me, oh so long ago
Battered and badly bruised
Can’t help myself, I think of you
I keep looking for some clues.

What was it that I did wrong?
What turned your heart away?
Was it something that I did.
Or something I didn’t say?

Devastated and feeling sad,
It’s hard for me to believe
That I never really mattered to you
I now mourn you, as I grieve.

My advice….run for the hills
If it sounds a little too good to be true
Or you’ll end up with a broken heart
She’ll make a fool of you.

She isn’t really worth it
I know just what she’ll do
She’s not there for the long haul
She’ll walk right out on you.
