JUSTIFIED

You turn your back, you walk away
You cover up your tracks
No second thoughts of empathy
Or reason to turn back.

The underlying anger
The seething rage within
The need to feel empowered
The constant drive to win.

You listen for the slip up
A reason, justified
Quick to severe all the ties
If one does not comply.

Walking through a landmine
Be careful, watch your step
Waiting for a reason
A reason to forget.

Written off so easily
Guess I saw it coming
Not a brand new concept
Was something you’ve been wanting.

You’ve shut me out, turned me away
Love comes with strings attached
It’s never unconditional
You will see to that.

Not new or unexpected
You’ve done this all before
You pride yourself on being cold
You’ve locked and closed the door.
