Walking round the festival
Outside having fun
Till suddenly defenseless
I had in fact been stung.
A swarm of yellow jackets
Consumed with rage appeared
Looking for some sugar
The one thing that I feared.
It started with an ice cream cone
Chocolate, double dipped
He got me on my finger
And right above my upper lip.
The pain was instantaneous
The toxin was released
The swelling and the throbbing
Continued to increase.
Afraid my throat was closing
Where was my Epi Pen?
I knew I needed to react
Looked through my purse, again.
It was there , I found it
In seconds, felt relief
Then I saw the EMT
He was there to rescue me.
He sprayed an antiseptic
Then applied a cold icepack
I was shaking , but felt better
He could see, I’d been stung twice.
I cried aloud, was helpless
I dropped my ice cream cone
Tried to run , to get away
I began to cry , to moan!
He took me to their station
Set up for emergencies
I soon calmed down, I thanked him
For looking after me.

If this is based on a real-life experience, I’m sorry to hear that it happened. Those moments of anaphylaxis are so scary!

I did go to a Garlic Festival yesterday and was stung by a yellow jacket, while eating an ice cream cone, (chocolate, double dipped). He stung me on my lower arm! I don’t have an allergy to bee stings, but imagined what it could have been like…. if I did. A little poetic license helped to create my poem. Thank you for caring! 💜
I appreciate your comments!!!!

Even without allergies, that’s still no fun! Still, you really used the inspiration well! Oh, and I love chocolate ice cream – yum!

Yes, it still hurts! Took some Benadryl and using an ice pack! Those darn Yellow Jackets pack a mean wallop, when they sting you! 🐝
It was Ben & Jerry’s ice cream! Mmmmm!!!! 😋

Glad you survived. The stingers are without end this year. Hornet came into my house to sting me! Blasted marauders.

Thank you for caring! Yes, the bees are horrible this year! I’m in Upstate New York. Can’t enjoy any meals outdoors! So much for barbecues and picnics!
Hope you can get the hornet out of your
house! 🐝
