GAMER

Put down your phone
For just one day
Forget the madness
Find a way.

You’re focused …. locked in
To such a small screen
With characters imagined
In the worst of your dreams.

Slashing and bashing
Seething with rage
So evil and violent
This power you crave.

Come to the garden
Sit down on the ground
Close your eyes for a moment
Listen to the sounds.

The bristling branches
The cool summer breeze
The sound of the birds
Up high in the trees.

Too much stimulation
You play all day long
Your eyes fixed and focused
You don’t see what’s wrong.

No social involvement
Too busy to chat
A few texts, a photo
Not much more than that.

Your sword and your shield
Your tools of engagement
Your guns and your bullets
It’s all entertainment.

The state of the world
So real …. uninvented
The peril we face
Is unprecedented.

But you want to escape
The game is your truth
I don’t understand
What’s happened to you.

  1. I became hooked on playing games at one point in my life. I couldn’t stop playing and my wife would wake up at 2 in the morning and tell me that I had to stop, because it would soon be time for me to go to work.

  2. Very powerful, my dear friend! And somehow, the middle part made me feel peaceful. I need to step away from the laptop, away from the blog, and take a ‘nature break’ to remember what’s really important. Thank you!
