FRIGHTENED

Our pride and our compassion 
A wealth of history 
Soon to be abolished 
That’s how it’s going to be.

All the norms we’ve cherished
To be taken away by force
Filled with only hate and rage
This is our new  found course.

Half the nation’s voters
Elected this regime
Is this what they really wanted?
What does this really mean?

So desperate now to take control
Set us back a hundred years
The thought of losing all our rights
Fills me with dread and fear.

Will good win over evil?
With no accountability?
He takes and takes, unopposed 
With no responsibility.

Greedy , crass, unbridled 
Looking out for billionaires 
Nothing that he plans to do 
Is respectable or fair.

A bully with the reigns in hand
A dictator wannabe
Now has his own country
Just wait, just wait and see. 

Who knows what lies before us
It’s out of our control
He’s forsaken what is just and right 
He’s given up his soul.

Where are our guardian angels?
Goliath can not win
But, like a cat with seven lives
Satan’s there protecting him.

  3. Wow, Patty … great poem!!! So perfect for this day. There are no ‘guardian angels’ … we are left to fight the battle, and fight we must … every one of us who believes in humanity, compassion, equality and justice. Can we win? I honestly don’t know, but if we don’t try, we will surely lose and will have only ourselves to blame. We are in for a rocky road, for some very dark times, but I will fight until I have no more breath and hope many others will, too.

    1. Hi, Jill! I’ve gone door to door, carried signs, waved on street corners and to no avail! The low information voters, conspiracy theorists and the wealthy won out, anyway! You have to concede that satan has a hand in all of this! To make matters worse…no one wants to stand up to him! Everyone is afraid! Kudos to the Bishop of Washington. She is now receiving death threats for asking him for compassion and mercy!
      Something is so wrong!!
      As always, good to hear from you!
      I am currently relocating to New York. Goodbye Florida! I want to be as far away from him as I can!

      1. You, my friend, are a great example for us all! I can no longer do things that require physical effort, but my words are my sword and I will use them as long as I draw breath! Yes, Bishop Budde is a hero in my view! We need more like her … we need some with her courage and convictions in Congress! Yes, something is very wrong in this country and I fear it will get worse before it gets better. Good to chat with you, too!!! I don’t blame you for leaving Florida one bit. I would dearly love to move to a “blue state” where I didn’t feel like an outlier, but my daughter’s job is here. Sigh. Be warned, though, that it is much c-c-colder in New York than in Florida!!! 🥶

      2. Yes, I lived in Woodstock, NY before moving to Florida! I know about the cold! Not a fan!!!!!
        Don’t want to be surrounded by the crazy extremists! Living in Hudson, NY now. Much happier and safer! 👍

      3. Funny thing … the cold never bothered me when I was younger, but now that I’m in my 70s, cold is C-C-COLD!!!! I agree about getting away from the crazy extremists … I sometimes think there are a couple of human sub-species, for I have absolutely nothing in common with some people these days!
