NO SECOND THOUGHTS

Know what you want
No doubt about it
You take it all
Can’t do without it.

No second thoughts
No guilt or pain
You change the locks
Forget their name.

No time to chat
To talk it through
When you are done
That’s it for you.

You have a plan
Know what to say
Nobody can
Get in your way.

Money matters
So does title
You take the lead
Control the bridle.

You set the stage
Arrange the plot
You look around
See what she’s got.

You make demands
They jump so high
Have no idea
It’s all a lie.

Karma falters
The devil wins
I know so well
That evil grin.

TRUST

Been down this road before
Oversharing can be dangerous
You say you want to know me
But, this journey can be perilous.

Treading lightly, moving slowly
I am cautious, there’s no rush
This could take a good long while
It takes time to build up trust.

Every secret is a treasure
You impart to someone else
Think twice, before you share it
Should you keep it to yourself?

Takes years to get to know someone
Someone you call, “a friend”
They’re by your side forever
Right to the very end.

Ups and downs, Ins and outs
You weather every storm
When you feel cold and lonely
They’re there to keep you warm.

Can’t be too guarded or mistrusting
Some people will pretend
Just be hesitant, be cautious
Before, you let them in.

AN ADDICTION

Don’t waste your time
Don’t sit and cry
When she decides
To say, “Good Bye”.

It’s dopamine
It’s nothing  more
You have to know
What she came for.

She lies to you
Gets what she wants
She’s learned what works
The rocket’s launched.

She flirts, she smiles
Takes off her clothes
That’s all it takes
That’s all she knows.

One of many
She has touched
She’ll take it all
She craves so much.

Reclaim your strength
Turn things  around
Get your feet
Back on the ground.

She’s using you
She did before
You’ll watch her go
She’ll close the door.

Her bread is buttered
By someone else
She wants the money
She needs his help.

You’ve got to know
This isn’t fair
She knows you’re hurt
She doesn’t care.

HUDSON RIVER PARK

The ice along the water’s edge
Has all but, disappeared
Leaves and sticks branches, too
Washed up and landed here.

The rain and waves will wash away
Debris around the rocks
Piled up along the shoreline
Near the boatlaunch and the dock.

Not quite warm enough, just yet
But, soon summer will arrive
The muskrats have returned, as well
So glad they’re still alive.

Young boys fishing with their dads
Seen casting out their lines
A great way to spend a sunny day
Great way to spend their time.

Children playing, family picnics
Several people in the park
Crew members working on their boats
Too soon it will get dark.

Looking out across the water
Watching as the sun goes down
A perfect sunset, a perfect day
Now, time to head back …. into town.

DO SOMETHING

Why can’t we stop this madman?
He’s not a king or czar
Look at all the damage
That he has caused so far.

Who gives Musk the authority?
He is not a politician
No vetting, voting or appointment
No regard for the Constitution.

Trump is clearly damaged
Cruel and filled with hate
No way he cares about us
Believes that he is great!

Revenge.… his evil mantra
It’s what he’s living for
Standing with the insurrectionists
Encouraging a war.

Prejudice against women
Wants only white men to prevail
Is a racial bigot through and through
Clearly, he belongs in jail.

Ignoring judge’s rulings
Blatant ignorance and defiance
Shipping immigrants to El Salvador
Refuses to be compliant.

Musk buying votes for republicans
Acting out on Center Stage
Destroying all our our agencies
So sure he has it made.

Rummaging through our private files
In and out of federal buildings
Firing thousands without warning
No regard for anyone’s feelings.

Somebody please do something
Reign this madman in
He wants to be a dictator
He’s not a leader or our friend.

A PERFECT STORM

My hands start shaking
When I think of you
My heart starts pounding
My lips turn blue.

I changed my number
Don’t contact me
Don’t try and find me
Just let me be.

I blocked your number
Changed my profile, too
My friends feel the same
The same way that I do.

Don’t make me reach out
Get the police involved
They’ll lock you up
For a good long while.

Too many explosive
Threats and abuse
I know in my heart
That I’m not safe with you.

You have it all
Good looks and charm
But, you’re nothing less
Than a perfect storm.

NEVER

Can’t change someone’s feelings
Can’t tell them what to do
Can’t control what they think
Or make them feel for you.

No amount of pressure
Will make them fall in love
Nothing that you could say
Would ever be enough.

If the chemistry between you
For some reason isn’t right
No amount of wishful thinking
Can turn daylight into night.

You could climb the highest mountain
You could try your very best
But no matter what you do or say
You will never pass their test.

Don’t beg and plead for mercy
Hoping and praying, too
Cause you’re never going to change
The way they think of you.

MY LUCKY DAY

Some are lucky
Some…. not so much
Some seem to have
The Midas Touch.

Some have money
Some have fame
Some … like bugs
Drawn to the flame.

Salt over your shoulder
When there’s a spill
A bit of holy water
To sprinkle at will.

First on the list
Wherever you go
Not one broken mirror
Not one shard to show.

When taking a walk
No stepping on cracks
What could be worse
Could be worse than that?

I got a feeling
Deep down in my bones
Gotta make a decision
A cup or a cone?

Playing my number
Lucky 842
Whatever happens
I’ll split it with you.

Bring on the clover
The horseshoes, the sage
No need to worry
It’s my lucky day!

TOO FAR FROM SHORE

It doesn’t feel the same
Not as it was before
You’ve drifted with the current
You’re too far from the shore.

I can no longer reach you
I tried, but you were gone
Can’t get back to where we were
You waited way too long.

You didn’t try to hang on
You threw caution to the wind
Turned your back , sailed away
Won’t be back again.

The loneliness consumes me
Feeling sorry for myself
Missing you, longing for
The love I thought you felt.

OWN IT

Lacking common sense
They’ve put us all at risk
Nothing’s going to happen
A mere slap upon the wrist.

Were they unaware
A breech had taken place?
Putin is eavesdropping
Has a smile upon his face.

A journalist is outraged
Included in the text
When he realized it
Afraid…. What to do next?

Alerting his newspaper
Telling the public, too
Now standing before Congress
They’re unable to tell the truth.

Making light, diminishing
The gravity of their actions
Should have known they’d deny it
And never make retractions.

They need to step up….own it!
Why spin such blatant lies?
The evidence is crystal clear
An “attack” should be classified.

No honor, pride or morals
Trump has led them down the drain
They all follow willingly
I watch with such distain.
