MY SWEET COCONUT

There’s no love that could be sweeter
Than the love I feel for you
My four-legged, furry puppy
Oh, how I do love you.

When I come home, you greet me
I leave all heartache behind
You can make me forget it all
Because you love me and you’re mine.

You sit with me thru sadness
When I am facing bitter loss
I know that you will comfort me
You’re always happy, never cross.

Your tail wags… a mile a minute
When I walk into a room
Makes me feel so happy
I cast aside all dread and gloom.

Your sweet face when I am lonely
I reach out and hold you close
I always know that you’re there for me
You’re the one I love the most.

NO MATTER WHAT WE DO

Though we try to eat what’s right
We are faced with the inevitable
No matter what we do
It comes down to more than vegetables.

Your genetics play a role
The day has been predestined
You can try to postpone
But your death is set, no question.

Running that extra mile
Might make you feel much better
But in the end, it won’t erase
That familial high blood pressure.

When the time has finally come
No medicines or pills
Will help ward away the Reaper
Best to plan to have a will.

We are born, and we will die
The cycle then repeats
We get buried in the ground
Six feet below and underneath.

So, make the most of your life
Be mindful of what you say
Be kind to those who need it most
Be thankful for each day.

CAUGHT

via Daily Prompt: Haul

Haul

They surrounded the house
They knocked down the door
What was it they wanted?
What were they looking for?

There was cocaine and pills
Worth two million in all
I heard them respond
“Wow, what a haul”!

They were under surveillance
And under suspicion
There were two undercover
They found guns….ammunition.

Wearing bullet proof vests
Helmets and boots
They were surprised when they found
When they found… all the loot.

More than expected
More than they knew
The suspects were shocked
When they came busting thru.

Handcuffs and subpoenas
All done by the book
They had been caught
Caught on the hook.

Six were arrested
Two had been shot
They tried to escape
They had to be stopped.

THE MAN WITH THE GRIN

The night was cool
The sun went down
I was alone
No one around.

I sat near the water
The tide came in
I was approached
By a man, a man with a grin.

I looked concerned,
I looked around
Most everyone
Had gone to town.

There was a fair
It came every year
Was he a Carni?
Why was he here?

His hands looked grimy
He looked unkempt
His hair was greasy
His clothes looked damp.

What did he want?
I thought to myself
Would anyone hear me
If I called out for help?

“You live nearby”?
He boldly asked
I said not far,
And, then he laughed.

“Can I sit down?
I’d love to talk”
I was afraid
Too scared to balk.

He worked the snack bar
Worked at the fair
I wasn’t interested
I didn’t care.

Tried not to show him
I was afraid
Give him a reason
To use his blade.

I saw the knife
Tucked in his pants
I quickly noted
In just a glance.

He was a young man
Could be about thirty
He hadn’t bathed
He smelled quite dirty.

Was he homeless?
A wandering bum?
Where did he live?
Where was he from?

At my insistence
I called it a night
He stayed behind
I hoped till light.

He didn’t follow
He let me be
I walked away
So carefully.

OLD MAN WINTER

via Daily Prompt: Frigid

Frigid

The temperatures are frigid
The snow keeps coming down
There seems to be no stopping it
From blanketing the ground.

It’s beautiful to look at
So pure, so white the snow
But in time, it turns to grey
It really needs to go.

The roads, so treacherous and icy
Cars skidding into trees
The visibility obscured
This keeps happening to me.

I’ve got to get to work on time
Tired of cleaning off my car
The car doors are frozen shut
And, I’ve got to drive so far.

Plows and buses slow me down
My commute’s so complicated
There’s got to be an end to this
I’m feeling so frustrated.

It’s April now, and still, there’s snow
What’s wrong with Old Man Winter?
Has he simply lost his mind?
I’m tired of frozen fingers.

We really need the sun to shine
Let the flowers start to bloom
Please melt the ice and the snow
Bring us Springtime, bring it soon.

THE END IS NEAR

You’re feeling your heart beating inside your chest
Your head pounding harder and harder
Your heart is racing faster and faster
As you reach for a glass of water.

You’re starting to sweat, feeling diaphoretic
Your first thought is to get back home
Everyone’s talking, talking at once
You wish they would leave you alone.

You don’t know what’s happening
You wonder if, you are about to die
Are you having a heart attack?
You’re losing the vision in both of your eyes.

The end is near, this is it
The day of remorse and regret
Your time has clearly run out on you
Are you facing the ultimate, death?

EMS comes rolling in
With blankets and tanks of O2
You are so weak and so helpless now
There’s nothing you could possibly do.

A SMALL WHITE LIE

I watched him from across the room
He counted out his change
He questioned what the pie would cost
Not the chocolate, the meringue.

More than he could apparently afford
He left with just a coffee
He sat down by the window
I knew that he could see me.

He looked well into his 80’s
His jacket worn and torn
His shoes looked scuffed, his hat too small
He looked somewhat lonely and forlorn.

I went up to the counter
I bought two pieces of the meringue pie
I walked over with my coffee
Then I told a small white lie.

Told him they had a special
Buy one, get one free.
“I really can’t eat two pieces, I said
Would you mind sharing some with me?”

He seemed a little suspect
I told him I could use the company
“I’m feeling a little lonely, I said
Would you spend some time with me?”

He obliged and we sat together
We talked about the past
He had fought in WW2
We also shared some laughs.

His wife had died a month ago
He had no children to turn to
It was just him, his wife and their small dog
Now it was just he and his dog, named Blue”.

A random act of kindness
That’s all that it would take
To spend your time with someone
What a difference it could make.

COFFEE TIME

I’m looking for my Mojo
Do you know where it has been?
Hiding here, hiding there
I need it back again.

I’m feeling kinda sluggish
Deplete of energy
I need a jolt of lightning
To ignite what’s left of me.

Lying here, not moving
Can’t seem to get around
I’m feeling drained, and oh so tired
Can’t get up and off the ground.

If I don’t get my Mojo back
The wind beneath my sails
I’ll be moving twice as slow
As those creeping, crawling snails.

How about a cup of coffee?
It best be caffeinated
I need a charge, a mid-day lift
To get me motivated.

Join me at the coffee shop
I’ll have a caramel macchiato
Extra crème, extra sugar
Make it a caramel expressiato!!!!

Whatever it takes, to light me up
To bring me to my feet
Maybe a cup of coffee
Extra light and oh so sweet.

PLEASE, HE’S GOT TO GO

via Daily Prompt: Churn

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2018/04/04/churn/

My stomach began to churn
My head began to spin
My mind was racing
My world came to an end.

Everything we’ve worked for
Everything we believe in
All came to a screeching halt
The day they voted you in.

Destroying the economy
Destroying our good name
All the world is watching
For you, it’s all a game.

What’s wrong with Paul Ryan?
And, the Congress of the United States?
They need to impeach you
Put you in prison, for goodness sake.

You’re nothing but a bully
You not making this country great
You don’t give a damn about us
You’re promoting greed and hate.

The rest of the world is laughing
While we all scratch our heads
Wondering how you got elected
Who was sleeping in your bed?

Gluttony, greed, and madness
We’ve all been overtaken
You have your own agenda
Our freedom is being forsaken.

This is not a joke
We are being scammed
Please, Mueller hurry up
Get rid of this sick man.

OFF THE HOOK

I’ll do it……

Really?

Yeah, I wanna help……

Are you sure?

Positive!……

Okay, then.

Well, maybe not ……

I see

But, maybe …….

Okay

But, you’ll do it, then?…….

Yeah, no problem.

Are you sure?……

Yeah, I’m sure

But, I do wanna help…….

That’s okay

You gonna do it?……

I’ll do it

I could do it……

If you want to

Yeah, I think so……..

You sure?

I think I can do it…….

You got this?

Yeah, yeah……

I’ll do it

I got it…….

You doing it?

You want me to do it?……..

No, you’re off the hook.
