NEXT IN LINE

Your mind begins to wander
Don’t open the flood gates
Too much time has passed you by
You know that it’s too late.

Some things were never meant to be
Learn to be alone
You’re better off, you know you are
You’re lucky that she’s gone.

Cold hearted …. charismatic
Such a deadly combination
Lured you in, ate you up
While you were on vacation.

Candlelight beneath the stars
A room with an ocean view
She wanted you to give it up
Expected that from you.

One of many…. she’s been through
Someone to pass the time
Standing there oblivious
You were the next in line.

Her interest wains, it fades away
Nothing more that you can do
She’s not the prize you waited for
She’s made a fool of you.

Lick your wounds, nurse your scars
Learn to just say, “No!”
Stand up tall, no looking back
Tell her… . she’s got to go.

CURSED

Things aren’t the same
You feel it too
There’s been a change
A change in you.

You come home late
Sit in your car
Talk on the phone
From where you are.

I see you there
I raise the shade
You smile and laugh
I casually wave.

Your patience wains
You get annoyed
There’s a divide
Can’t fill the void.

I watch you text
She’s into you
I can’t compete
What can I do?

Impatient tone
Not interested
In such a rush
To forget us.

Can’t go on
The way we are
If you want out
This will be hard.

Pack your bags
An even split
Just don’t forget
You wanted this.

I’m crying now
Could be much worse
Guess I’ve been played
Yes, I’ve been cursed.

SO WHAT?

Deep inside
The wound is deep
Can’t stop the pain
Or get to sleep.

Hit the wall
Hit it hard
Devastated
Torn apart.

Told myself
You’d see the light
That you’d want
To make it right.

Foolishly
I believed
You were the one
The one I need.

Secrets shared
So intimate
Now you shrug
You say, “So what?”

How could I
Have been so wrong?
You used me up
Strung me along.

Memories
A mere charade
Makes me cautious
And afraid.

MERELY TEMPORARY

I was merely temporary
There to fill a void
Someone to be close to
To help drown out the noise.

Said that you were lonely
Said we were meant to be
Said fate brought us together
Said you would  marry me.

Told you all my secrets
My deepest darkest  thoughts
Then I found her number
Guess you wanted to get caught.

Said that you were  sorry
Said you  made a big mistake
Said you’d always love me
But, then sent me away.

I was so in love with you
Gave up everything
Did the things you wanted to
Then gave back your ring.

True love’s not temporary
It’s meant to last forever
I was used, then cast aside
Cause you found someone better.

Don’t believe this was a lesson
Not what was meant for me
I believe  I  dodged a bullet
The day you set me free.

STONER

Nothing but a pot head
A stoner always high
Come on man , give it up
Gotta do it,  gotta try.

Anytime day or night
You just wanna  smoke
I find you dazed , eyes are glazed
You’re always high on dope.

Can’t have a conversation
Can’t get too close to you
Too relaxed, sitting back
You’ve smoked a joint or two.

Plowing through the Cheetos
You’ve had too many chips
When you gonna realize
Something’s wrong with this?

No true aspirations
You’d rather roll a joint
You ain’t going nowhere
You’ll never quit…. you won’t.

You play the same, familiar tunes
Comes easy every time
Nothing new, nothing from you
You’re lagging far behind.

With talent one could envy
Wasted….  nothing new
Tired of expectations
Nothing more that I  can do.

Everyday …. it’s  the same
The same  …. year after year
Every time I look for you
I find you sitting here.

AFTERNOON TEA

Candy and cake
Afternoon tea
Why don’t we meet
At quarter past three?

Truffles and mints
A pot of hot tea
An afternoon treat
As good as can be.

Let’s sit by the window
Too cold near the door
The seats are all cushioned
There’s tile on the floor.

Watching the people
Those passing by
Some look , awfully friendly
They wave and say, “Hi!”.

Gentle soft music
“SEND IN THE CLOWNS”
The mood is established
A lovely sweet sound.

A raspberry tart
Some hot apple pie
A pot of Earl Grey
And a cool autumn sky.

So glad we could meet
Let’s do it again
So happy to be
Such very good friends.

A WALK TO THE PARK

What’s on the agenda
A walk to the park?
We don’t have much time
It soon will be dark.

The boats on the river
Kayaks coming in
The sun’s going down
This day will soon end.

The leaves on the ground
Fall is upon us
My favorite season
I’ve loved it the longest.

The browns and the yellows
The crimson and rust
An array of patterns
Arranged just for us.

We sit on the bench
The cool Autumn breeze
A strong sense of peace
Comes over me.

My corduroy jacket
Hands in my pocket
The muskrat alone
Is making a racket.

The acorns have fallen
The squirrels scurry about
Stuffing their faces
Acorns in their mouths.

Preparing for winter
Now on its way
No time for kibitzingi
For fun or for play.

A ten minute walk
In the brisk cool night air
Heading back home
We soon will be there.

JUST OLD AGE

Oh my lord, what should I do?
I can’t bend down, put on my shoes
Pain in my hip, pain in my knee
Please tell me what is wrong with me.

Call the doctor, call the nurse
The number’s there, it’s in my purse
What could have caused this injury?
What in the world, has happened to me?

Throbbing pain from my hip
I didn’t fall, I didn’t trip
I’ve spent my days just like before
Nothing less and nothing more.

Doctor says, it’s just old age
Soon they’ll put me in the grave
What am I supposed to do?
I’m feeling sad, I’m feeling blue.

Painful joints, pain in my bones
I can’t help but whine and moan
There’s got to be a pill or shot
It’s killing me, it hurts a lot.

I think I need some therapy
Some exercise, not surgery
Looking for my heating pad
It’s just too much, I’m feeling sad.

Hope I’m feeling better soon
Lunch with a friend today at noon
Feeling old before my time
Will bring my cane, will drink some wine.

Can’t believe the pain I have
Waking up and feeling bad
Maybe it’s just temporary
Aging is so Stinking Scary!

“THIS TOO SHALL PASS”

Out of control
Circling the drain
Can’t make it stop
The fear and the pain.

“This too shall pass”
But, just don’t know when
It keeps right on coming
Again and again.

Over the top
Out of my mind
I need some relief
So tired of crying.

Nowhere to go
No sanction
My burden’s too much
Too heavy to carry.

Gotta lay down
Put up my shield
I’m overwhelmed

Need time to heal.

Looking for peace
Got to step away
Need time alone
To reflect and to pray.

NeeNee

You truly have a heart of gold
Never thinking of yourself
Always there to lend a hand
Always there to help.

Now angels wait beside the gate
To welcome you with love
It brings us peace… knowing you’re
Looking down from up above.

Free of pain and suffering
Loved by everyone
Two daughters who love and cherish you
Your husband and your son.

Your grandchildren send their love
They always will remember
The love you gave, your thoughtfulness
Your hugs so warm and tender.

No better aunt or mother
Cousin or a friend
Always there to love us all
Right to the very end.

Trinkets, treasures, paper dolls
You gave us everything
Anything to make us smile
You surly earned your wings

You’re an angel now in heaven
We’ll think of you each day
Bow our heads, close our eyes
As we knell to pray.

Blessings, our sweet NeeNee
We send you our deepest love
Among the stars, the sky, the clouds
In heaven up above.
