CASSANDRA

100 Word Challenge: QUAINT. # 368.

______________________________

In a quaint village along  the shoreline of New England, lived a  very lonely, young man.  His name was Marco.  He worked on his Uncle Ray’s fishing boat. He was kind and compassionate, but sadly…. he lived alone in a small cabin near the marina.
Everyday for Marco was the same, until the night he met his beloved, Cassandra. They were a perfect match , except for one thing….her lower body was not made of skin and bones. Cassandra had a large fin attached…. just below her waist. Marco…. had in fact, fallen madly in love with a beautiful Mermaid.

BUSY BODY

She’s over the top
She talks  way too much
She can’t keep a secret
Why can’t she just hush?

She flits all around
Flapping her lips
All over town
I’m so tired of it.

A true busy body
A meddling fool
Sits out on her porch
 On an old, wooden stool.

Watches the traffic
Counts all the cars
Knows where you’re going
Knows who you are.

She has ADD
She’s up and she’s down
She gets in her car
And drives all around.

Watches your movements
Knows what you do
A voyeur,  a stalker
Yeah, she’s watching you.

On the day of your engagement….
I went up, sat on the roof.

Molly, Evelyn and me.

Drank water from a garden hose
Had sleep overs with friends
Slept in tents in our backyards
Never wanted it to end.

They’re in heaven up above
I was so lucky, yes I was …..
I was so truly, truly loved.

Cancer is so rough
The constant pain and agony
Me trying to act tough.

The fear that plagues me day and night
All the pills I have to take
Now more radiation
Make it stop for heaven’s sake!

No one knows my feelings
Guess, I don’t expect them to
But stop telling me you understand
When you haven’t got a clue!

I’ve tried my best but, here it comes
More chemotherapy
How much more? Is it all done?
This cancer’s scaring me!

MRI ‘s and Cat Scans
Needles, lines and all the wires
I can’t say no, but I want to
I feel like I’m on fire.

There’s poison running through my veins
Fighting for the greater good
Killing off  those cancer cells
Hopefully, the way they should.

Guess I have to  step it up
It’s a battle I can win
I just have to stay the course
Through all the rain and wind!

I have good days and  bad days
I could use some chicken soup
Maybe recall some memories
Of us sitting on our stoop.

The love of those around me
Helps me …. yes, it gets me through
I appreciate your thoughts and prayers

ROOMMATE WANTED

What’s up with these apartments?
Hard to find a place to live
So many strict requirements
Guess that’s just the way it is.

Utilities and water
Your  responsibility
No extra perks or prizes
Nothing complimentary.

Who makes that kind of money?
I am only twenty two
Newly out of college
What am I supposed to do?

Gonna need  to get a roommate
Gotta hope she’ll pay her share
Praying she can pull her weight
And doesn’t mind the stairs.

Price gouging, it’s a nightmare
They do a background check
Review all your financials
Provided per request.

With thirty applications
Doubt they’re going  to rent to me
Fingers crossed, soon we’ll know
If it is meant to be.

If not… maybe… it was my age
Race or sexual orientation
They’re not supposed to tell you why
For fear of litigation.

All you can do is look around
For a one bedroom or two
Maybe just a studio
At this point …. that would do.
