THE JETTY

Approaching the jetty, I could see
The waves coming up and over the rocks
My view was obscured, but there they were
The body and the three city cops.

There was crime scene tape and EMS
It looked like a woman’s body had been found
Wedged between two rocks, maybe three
They had laid her body out on the ground.

The police, detectives and the M.E.
All were busy gathering clues
I didn’t know if it was suicide, or not
Guess I’d find out on the evening news.

I was walking with a friend of mine
Who was scared and not the least bit curious
I on the other hand was intrigued
But she was starting to act somewhat furious.

She insisted that we turn around
So we left and walked back home
She was afraid and said she was nervous
Didn’t want to walk home all alone.

Once we got back, I couldn’t wait
I turned on the 11 o’clock news
They said a woman was found dead at the beach
That she had returned from a Carribean cruise.

No further information about cause of death
They said was that she was only forty five
She was divorced, she traveled alone
And, was last seen on the dock alive.

Two weeks later, I talked to my cousin
He was a police officer in our local town.
He told me they had arrested her ex and
That some evidence had fortunately been found.
