AN INTERROGATION

via Daily Prompt: Elaborate

Elaborate

An elaborate story was once told to me
About a suspect’s alibi
Too many components, too complex
It had to be an outright lie.

I’d spoken to many crooks and thieves
Knew just what I was looking for
This guy wasn’t being upfront with me
He was bad right down to the core.

A psychopath, with lying tendencies
And such evil inclinations
I wasn’t buying any of it
He was also on probation.

He had served time for lying and cheating
Had spent ten years in a local prison
He’d been out for only thirty days
Now picked up for an obvious violation.

Under wraps, under lock and key
Was where he was going to be
Lying and trying to deceive
Was not going to work with me.

He wasn’t going to get away with this
We had him dead to right
Once I was done with my questioning
He’d be locked up for the rest of his life.
