HAUNTING

Disheartened and disillusioned
Devastated  and forlorn
Plagued with pain and torment
Consumed with hurt and scorn.

The memories are haunting
Is there  no way I can erase
The sound of your voice in my head
The recollection of your face?

Drowning out the memories
Unworthy of remembrance.
No escape from my mistakes
A day to day encumbrance.

Forgotten and easily dismissed
The smallest grain of sand
Insignificant and inconsequential
Such a small part of your plan.

I need to let go, to step away
From the grasp you’ve had on me
Going to cut the ties, going to break free
Of the past and your memory.
