THIS VIRUS

Feeling hot and sweaty
But have to wear my mask
Have to take precautions
Hope this virus doesn’t last.

The shoppers at the market
Some refusing to comply
They don’t believe the news reports
They make me want to cry.

Out of toilet paper
Wondering what I came here for
No paper towels or napkins
Do you think they’ll order more?

Wiping down my shopping cart
Trying to be safe
Hoping that I don’t forget
Reach up and touch my face.

The people wait at checkout
They stand six feet apart
This strange, new way of living
Is enough to break my heart.
