NO CHRISTMAS CHEER

Christmas is here
But not like I remember
The  family …. the friends
Coming over for dinner.

No joy …. just remorse
A heart filled with sorrow
No laughter …. surprises
Feeling empty …. so hollow.

Trying so hard
To feel Christmas cheer
But everyone’s gone
There’s nobody here.

So what’s the point?
Why put up a tree?
There’s no one here
I’m alone …. it’s just me.

The parties ….  the joy
The cookies …. the gifts
It’s all gone …. I give up
I’ve lost all of it.

The lights in the windows
But who really cares?
No family to be with
This just isn’t fair.

Feeling so sad
Missing you most
I feel so alone
I’ve given up hope.

      1. You are welcome. I have great difficulty at Christmas too, and Inhate it. That was why I responded. I related to what you had written. So I won’t say Happy Christmasvto you but just, I hope you can get through as well as possible. ❀️

  1. Here I am just for you, An old friendship to renew,

Cheer up and smile, I will see you in a short while, wine and dine all will be fine.

So send me a smile and enjoy the days, Life is too short to be dismayed.

This is not meant to be competition for the poet laureate, only an attempt to cheer you up. Henry

      1. Thank you — I’ll do Christmas with a nice turkey meal, though not a full “Christmas dinner,” and New Year’s with a glass of wine as the ball drops in New York — to bed by 10 pm here in CA!

  2. We usually make the most of the time off work to see each other. But there are 200 of us so we don’t do gifts or anything. It’s normally just food and games. We have a huge summer party in the summer when we can all run around and play sports together. Of course things will be different this year. I am in Tier 4 London, so I will be alone. But we will chat on the phone. I am thinking of all the things I can do to make the most of the peace and quiet and have some books I want to read. I picked up some nice foodie items on the way home from work. I will make vegetarian curry this weekend. I am also going to have vegan cheese and crackers. I am just going to make sure I have a little consolation for being on my own.

I am also hosting an online party on Friday and hoping anyone like me who is all alone knows they are absolutely the special guests of honour, but I hope the more the merrier!

    1. Hi! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Actually, I had a calm and peaceful Christmas. It can be difficult to get through the holidays for many people…though. It’s a time for remembering family members and friends …that are no longer with us. It is a joyous time , too! Enjoying hot chocolate, presents, Christmas trees, stockings, etc. Hope you had a good holiday! Best Wishes for a Happy & Healthy New Year! πŸŽ„

  3. Heartfelt Patty. I feel so sorry for anyone in this position. At Christmas, a lonely time can be lonelier still. My Country (Wales)is in a tier 4 lockdown so I won’t be seeing family for the new year but I hope to have been released for my 70th. I wish you a very Happy New Year, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda. no resolutions to break.
    Hugs
