CHERISHED MEMORIES

Memories of childhood
Sleigh riding down the hill
Coming home with rosy cheeks
Snow on the window sill.

Boots and coats , mittens too
A scarf to keep us warm
We’d  sit beside the window
Awaiting a snowstorm.

The leaves glistening in the moonlight
Inside a cozy fire
My mother in the kitchen
After sledding we were tired.

A pot of soup on the stove
The smell of homemade bread
We’d  gather round the table
Have some soup, then off to bed.

Awaiting Santa’s visit
All the presents and the toys
Filled our house with laughter
So much happiness and joy.

My father home from work late
Would come  up to say, “Good Night”
Tells us that he loved us
Then he’d turn off all the lights.

Good to look back, remembering
The way it used to be
To reminisce …. to smile again
To cherish memories.
