A PERFECT DAY

There are muskrats
Playing on the rocks
In the water
Around the docks.

They seem to have
Enough to eat
They scamper about
Barely noticing me.

Playful rascals
Like water clowns
Swimming, splashing
Running around.

Mistaken for
A baby beaver
But, know that mom
Would never leave her.

Sitting on
An old park, bench
Everyday
At half past ten.

The show is on
Don’t need a ticket
The frogs have gathered
The fish and crickets.

The river’s wide
The river’s  deep
Up and about
No time to sleep.

Boats and ships
Travel through
Yachts, rowboats
Even canoes.

Sailboats, jet skis
Kayaks, too
A perfect day
To spend with you.
