CRYSTAL CLEAR

A penetrating wound
The weapon never found
No footprints to dust
The snow melted to the ground.

Looking for a knife
But it never did appear
Seems the weapon…. never surfaced
But like the ice…. was crystal clear.

The large drips fell from the roof
They had frozen there in place
No one thought to look there
Once melted… were erased.

Such a clever weapon
Much better than a knife
An ingenious means of death
Could be used to take a life.

Can you convict without a weapon?
Evidence equals a crime
But without any fingerprints
Can you prosecute this time?

The ice had simply melted
The investigation took too long
The weapon that was used
Had melted, it was gone.

LOSS

One special moment
One special day
A special memory
Locked away.

Your precious smile
Your warm embrace
That caring look
Upon your face.

There’s no way
To bring you back
You are gone
And that’s a fact.

I’ll never hear
Your laugh again
But I can still
Remember when.

Before Disease
Had ravished you
And left me here
So sad, so blue.

Left to pine
For you all day
Until I find
Another way.

To deal with loss
To deal with grief
A pain so harsh
A pain so deep.

At least the memories
Still remain
They ease my sorrow
They ease my pain.

GOING DOWN

Click , click
Handcuffs
Click , click
Where’s her stuff?

Read your rights
Look where you are
In the back
Of a squad car.

Police reports
Said you were there
What’s in your pockets?
You still scared?

Central booking
Will take some time
What were you thinking?
What’s on your mind?

Sitting there
Behind bars
Always known
You won’t get far.

Stripped searched
Mouth shut
You try and talk
They say, “enough”.

Rights are gone
You should’a known
What were you thinking?
Now, you’re alone.

Old ladies?
Were you for real?
Was it worth it?
Why did you steal?

Were you hungry?
Was it for fun?
Good thing… no weapon
Good thing… no gun.

You’re going down
Might get a plea
I would confess
If it were me.

Six months
Probably more
Since you’ve been thru
This all before.

MY LUCKY CHARM

via Daily Prompt: Talisman

Talisman

He carried his talisman
Everywhere that he would go
Thru every struggle
Thru the rain or thru the snow.

Barriers and obstacles
Often crossed his path
Thank goodness for his lucky charm
Instead of crying, he’d just laugh.

Like magic he would find the way
Passed negativity and hardships
He was considered the luckiest guy
He revealed thru every part of this.

Always knew he had no worries
That luck was on his side
He never had to be concerned
No reason, or need to cry.

Like he had won the lottery
He skated right on by
He never had to think about it
Luck was on his side.

Then came the day he reached inside
Found a hole in the pocket of his pants
He had lost his lucky charm
He began to scream and rant.

“Oh no, what will I do?
I’ve lost my lucky charm
Try and help me find it
Please sound the alarm.”

He looked high and low
He looked everywhere
His lucky charm was gone
And no one seemed to care.

The wizards and the genies
Had all just disappeared
Without his lucky charm
He’d be facing all his fears.

Now he was standing on his own
No safety net to catch his fall
He had to make his own luck now
There was no one there to call.

MY OWN SHADOW

Trembling and frightened
Always feeling so afraid
Afraid of my own shadow
Afraid of my own grave.

Walking into any room
Filled with a large crowd
Wishing they’d be quiet
The noise is just too loud.

Tired of all the feelings
Of remorse and harsh regret
Wishing to find a way out
A simple way I could forget.

Stumbling and tripping
Over my own feet again
Being betrayed by you, by them
My not so loyal friends.

Out of control, losing my way
When did it all go wrong?
I was once so happy
Now I sing this sad, sad song.

Not having very much fun these days
Feeling weary and withdrawn
Nothing’s ever been quite right
Now that you are gone.

Missing Nora Ephron
Her books, her interviews
There was no one like her
No one with her attitude.

No one’s using their fine china
Fast food is all they need
No one plants a garden
Grown from just one little seed.

Candlelight and music
Props used only in the past
Romance has since escaped me
Guess it was never meant to last.

LOCK HIM UP

Nothing more than a predator
We’ve heard it all before
Playbunnies and pornstars
Secretaries and so many more.

Such a lowlife actor
Pretending that you care
This country deserves more than you
This simply isn’t fair.

A pathological liar
An illiterate babbling fool
You should get what you are due
You’re a narcissistic mule.

Praising Putin, a murderer
A dictator, an unopposed assassin
Congratulating him on the election
How in the hell could this have happened?

Just because you say it’s so
Doesn’t make it true
Everyone should know by now
We have no faith in you.

Sex, lies, and video tapes
They’ll catch up to you
You’ll be caught with your pants down
Before the court’s are through.

Taking full advantage
Of your money and your fame
In the end you’ll be nothing
Just a number, not a name.

You need to be in prison
That’s where you do belong
After Mueller finishes with you
You’ll sing a different song.

They need to have you put away
Then throw away the key
You don’t belong in society
You should never be set free.

You’ve hurt so many people
So many in your wake
But one day soon, you will finally see
You’ve made your last mistake.

Behind bars is where you’ll be
Your debt long past and overdue
No one will care what you have to say
We’ll be free of the likes of you.

INVISIBLE

via Daily Prompt: Invisible

Invisible

You’ve become invisible
It’s like you never met
Like he never knew you
You were so easy to forget.

You built your life around him
What were you thinking then?
How could you have been so wrong?
How did it all begin?

He put his plan in motion
He was all over you
Blinded by intensity
But, not a thing he said was true.

That luring look in his eyes
What more could you do?
You fell so hard, you believed
He was in love with you.

He’s moved on, it’s over now
You were left behind
One day he said he loved you
The next, he changed his mind.

The shame and the embarrassment
Plaque your heart and mind
Wish you never met him
Wish you hadn’t been so blind.

HEADING NORTH

Reflections of sunlight
Seen from my window
Fills up the sky
And the street far below.

A ball so bright
Like never before
Incredible sunlight
Sunshine galore.

Children out playing
They shield their eyes
For some it’s so bright
It’s making them cry.

Don’t stare for too long
You may even go blind
The sun is so bright
It’s much hotter this time.

Where are the clouds
To offer us shelter?
It’s getting too hot
I’m starting to swelter.

There is no protection
Get into the shade
Fires are igniting
What a mess we have made.

Before very long
We will need to withdraw
Come out of our houses
And run from it all.

Our pools evaporating
No water to drink
Steam coming out
of our own kitchen sinks.

When it gets dark
We should plan to go
Heading far north
Where they still have some snow.

Too much pollution
No sunscreen left
We have to do something
I’m scared half to death.

We knew it was coming
Not much we can do
We’re a planet in crisis
Protected by few.

Money and greed
All their deregulations
Poisoning fuels
Causing annihilation.

SOMEWHAT PECULIAR

via Daily Prompt: Identical

Identical

The prints were identical
That’s what they said
How could this be possible?
The suspect was dead.

No way this could happen
It seemed so bizarre
They had dusted throughout
The inside of the car.

The car that was used
Was a rental, not owned
By the suspect, his family
Or anyone they’d known.

The suspect had died
Ten years before
No way he had touched
The inside of the door.

The little girl’s body
Was found in the woods
The police did their best
They did what they could.

They searched the records
Read the reports
Upon further pursuit
It was determined in court.

That the suspect’s fingers
Had all been excised
Along with his organs
Upon his demise.

It was never determind
How he had actually succumbed
But two fingers were missing
His right and left-thumbs.

Cleverly placed
The crime had been done
The murderer made use of
The fingers and thumbs.

Up on the dashboard
In the trunk in the back
He placed all the digits
To establish the facts.

Somewhat confused
The police worked the case
The real culprit’s prints
Had all been erased.

Turns out the ME
Was a man named….Earl
He was somewhat peculiar
Fixated on girls.

He took the digits
For his future use
He was quite sly
He knew what to do.

An unthinkable crime
To hurt a little girl
Our suspect found innocent
Our murderer was Earl.

A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

via Daily Prompt: Blush

Blush

You’re making me blush
You’re embarrassing me
I want to crawl in a hole
Please let me be.

I’m feeling so fragile
So vulnerable
So foolish, so blind
So miserable.

Feeling exposed
Stripped of my pride
The moment you spoke
Should have known that you lied.

I feel so ashamed
To have ever believed
That you really cared
That you needed me.

I was one of so many
Who fell for your line
You played a role
You committed a crime.

A creep and a thief
A robber, a bandit
You stole my heart
And now I’m abandoned.

Call the police
Sound the alarm
Don’t let him escape
He twisted my arm.

I was coerced
You flirted and charmed
Now I am wounded,
I have been harmed.

You belong in a prison
For thieves in the night
Who break and steal hearts
For pure selfish delight.
