A DAY IN PENICHE

Clay topped roofs
Cobblestone streets
Cafes and restaurants
Great places to meet.

Beaches and cliffs
Waves crash on the shore
Surfers in wetsuits
Seagulls galore.

Stores closed for lunch
For one or two hours
Taking a nap
Or picking wild flowers.

Expresso is served
Perhaps a galau
A strong cappuccino
Prepared for us, now.

We’ll meet on the corner
A table for two
Let me pay, today
I want to treat you.

We’ll sit by the window
We’ll sit and we’ll chat
We’ll  talk about issues
Some of this, some of that.

Afternoon bliss
A walk on the beach
We take off our shoes
Feel the sand on our feet.

Stop for a drink
Before saying good night
The sky … oh so clear
Beneath the moonlight.

A MARVELOUS DAY

A marvelous day
A feeling of bliss
I look in your eyes
You give me a kiss.

We walk hand in hand
Down cobblestone streets
Beautiful buildings
Of painted concrete.

Some blue and some yellow
Red and white striped
A man carries flowers
To give to his wife.

A stop at the cafe
Coffee for two
Love spending time
Talking to you.

The noise and the chatter
Two seagulls above
There on the rooftop
I think they’re in love.

The sunshine, a warm breeze
The smell of sea air
We walk to the ocean
We stop and just stare.

Spectacular waves
The foam is so white
Watching the surfers
Surfing morning till night.

The water is cold
They’re wearing wetsuits
We button our jackets
But, take off our shoes.

The sand on our feet
Feels cool to the touch
I tell you I love you
I love you so much.

MY DREAM

No home of my own
A gypsy at heart
A nomad, a loner
I’ve been from the start.

Buy low and sell high
Rent low or own
Hard to decide
I face the unknown.

Picking my poison
Right here on this earth
There in the mountains
Where I once gave birth.

To thousands of flowers
All growing there wild
I picked …. oh so many
When I was a child.

A small house to live in
Some land to raise goats
To learn to read music
To make fragrant soaps.

To run through the garden
To swim in the stream
This is my vision
This is my dream.

PANIC

I’m approaching panic mode
Hurry I can’t wait
Let’s go down to the river
It’s frozen, we can skate.

Miles and miles, the tundra
The frozen land of waste
I am feeling desperate
We’ve got to leave this place.

The buckling, the snow drifts
We do our best to muddle through
The sky above so dark and grey
We have to push on thru.

The wolves and the coyotes
Bear witness… we were there
Curious they followed us
From the banks above…. they stared.

Can’t feel my feet, they’re frozen
My eyelids closing shut
My fingers are frostbitten
Someone please, won’t you save us?

We skated down the river
For hours …. who knows where
Before search and rescue
Found us lying there.

The helicopter hovered
Dropped a rope from up above
They put us in a cradle
I could hear a pair of doves.

In my thoughts, outside the window
On the clothesline there below
Sat two enchanted love birds
Gently swaying to and fro.

MOVING ON

Years of total sadness
They say, I should move on
But memories still flood my mind
By now,  they should be gone.

All the therapy, the rebounds
The drugs, the wine , the beer
Nothing masks my feelings
Nothing stops my pain, my tears.

It’s no longer about you, it’s me
I need to let you go
I’m better off without you
Why have I sunk down so low?

It’s all about self image
Reflections of one’s self
It’s merely a fixation
I know … I should get some help.

Needing validation
That was my first mistake
Something I got used to
But, a habit I can break.

I need to be reprogrammed
For me to forge ahead
Work on feeling better
Get the past out of my head.

LIMERENCE

A simple case of limerence
An obsession, nothing more
I’ve driven myself crazy
Should’a walked right out the door.

I was foolish, I was innocent
I fell in love with you
Thought what we had together
Was a fairy tale come true.

A nervous agitation
A pounding in my chest
Was nothing but anxiety
I soon became a wreck.

Love is calm and healing
A sense of gratitude
It shows appreciation
For the things you say and do.

What started as a whirlwind
Was never going to lasti
There was no foundation
It happened way too fast.

A loop, my mind created
A fixation, a fantasy
I need to break the cycle
Need to face reality.

THE HUNGRY SEAGULL

High upon the rooftop
Sat a seagull ….  all alone
His feathers somewhat ruffled
His intentions were unknown.

Carrying his tray of food
A man walked from the bar
With no concerns or worries
He didn’t have to walk too far.

When heading toward his table
To his horror and surprise
A seagull on a mission
Grabbed his burger and his fries.

He swooped  down from the rooftop
A stealth maneuver, low and tight
So unexpected ….. the crowd, aghast
As the seagull took a bite.

There dangling from his long, orange beak
Was the seagull’s new found lunch
A burger, some onions and  a few french fries
On a toasted, sesame seed bun

Once the dust had settled
Everyone began to laugh
“Did you see that?  He stole his lunch!
He grabbed it so darn fast!”

Unable to contact the bird police
All the man could do was sigh
The hostess then cautioned her clientele
Hang on to your burgers and fries!

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

The hustle, the bustle
Of running around
Into each store
Driving all over town.

A scarf and a hat
A new flannel shirt
Trying to find
A navy blue skirt.

Socks for my brother
Got Dad a new tie
Let’s stop for a burger
A coke and some fries.

It’s cold in Nebraska
Wearing mittens and coats
Shopping for presents
Something I like the most.

Toys for my nephew
So many to choose
He wants a freight train
With a bright red caboose.

A necklace for mother
It should clearly say, MOM
I know she will love it
And, know who it’s from.

A stop for hot chocolate
With lots of whipped cream
I can’t help but wonder
Is this all a dream?

So happy, elated
Love holiday time
Shopping and  waiting
Yes, I’m next in line.

A little too big
To sit on his lap
But, Santa Claus says
“No worries about that”.

Promises made
Secrets are shared
He knows that I love him
He knows that I care.

Time to head home
So much to do
Wrap all the presents
Even got one for you.

SIRI

I’ve been driving for an hour
I’m afraid that I am lost
Siri seems to be confused
Still thinks that she’s the boss.

Turn left at the next stop sign
No wait ….. recalibrating
Stay on the route, I’ve got this
I am patient, I keep waiting.

At the corner …  make a right turn
Continue on the route
Don’t know …. what she is doing
Don’t know …. what I should do.

That house looks so familiar
Think I was here before
She’s taking me in circles
We’ve been past that country store.

Should I start all over
Press “END”, reset the map
Pull into a rest stop
Close my eyes and take a nap?

What became of Triple A
Their freebies and directions
Paper maps and magic markers
Back then …. there was no question.

No choice …. I’ll have to trust her
I put the address in
Pressing “GO” … we’re on our way
Let the fun and games begin.

Now …. we’re on the highway
She seems to have it right
The speed limit reads 65
Thank God ….. it’s still daylight.

Should be …. at our destination
In an hour …. half past two
I put my trust in Siri
Nothing else that I could do.

LUNCH IN THE PARK

I’m grateful for my family
I’m grateful for my friends
I’m thankful that I met you
Don’t want this day to end.

A picnic lunch with crackers
A wedge of cheddar cheese
A bottle of our favorite wine
We shared under the trees.

You put your arms around me
A grand gesture of affection
Then kissed my lips so tenderly
I felt a strong connection.

Walked around the garden pond
Watched the turtles near the bridge
Talked about the simple things
Found a bench, where we could sit.

Birds were chirping all around us
Nature’s outdoor symphony
So happy just to sit with you
Enjoy your company.

So grateful for my family
So grateful for my friends
I’m thankful that I met you
Don’t want this day to end.
