FAT CAT

Get the hook
Pull him off the stage
Can’t you see
What a mess he’s made?

Look around
He’s taking us down
The world is laughing
Because of this clown.

Pulling apart
The United States
Making fools of us
All the greed and hate.

No respect
He has no shame
Takes what he wants
That’s the name of the game.

Got to step up
Take this guy down
Please come together
Please look around.

All that we stand for
All that matters
Is being destroyed
While this “fat cat” gets fatter.

Heartless and cold
No thoughts of others
Taking children away
From their grieving mothers.

Open your eyes
It’s all clear as day
He is a criminal
Gotta put him away.

THANK YOU, LONDON

My gratitude, my heartfelt thanks
To the protesters in London
For standing up to Trump
For sometimes I feel abandoned.

It’s good to know that folks like me
Are really not alone
That other countries, including yours
Wish he would go back home.

Unqualified and filled with hate
He slipped under the wire
He is merely an entertainer
An evil, disruptive liar.

He has no place in politics
It is frightening to know
That he is running our country
He simply has to go.

The lies, the cruel atrocities
He has committed while president
Are horrifying and embarrassing
They are fostering resentment.

Thank you for all of your support
For trying to step in
We stand together for freedom
We must get rid of him.

HOLD MY HAND

Walk with me, talk with me
Please hold my hand
I am afraid
And, don’t understand.

The prejudice, blame
The hateful abuse
The targeting, accusing
The opinions of few.

I try to ignore them
I turn away
I look straight ahead
I hope they won’t stay.

But they exist
They are everywhere
They look done on me
They stop and they stare.

They’re hateful and cruel
Unforgiving, unfair
They lack compassion
Because they don’t care.

Please keep me safe
I stand all alone
Afraid to go out
Afraid to leave home.

SO OVERWHELMED

I feel so overwhelmed
So totally out of touch
My thoughts and all my feelings
Don’t matter very much.

I see the world thru my eyes
They seem so different than yours
Perhaps my thoughts are compromised
Perhaps just immature.

I wander round in circles
Confused and frustrated
Everything about you
Seems to be so complicated.

You wonder why I’ve walked away
I need some peace of mind
I’ve got to find my way there
Leaving heartache far behind.

This has to end, I can’t go on
Engaged in hurtful banter
I need to find a place to go
Away from all this anger.

The love I feel, the joy I’ve known
Does not negate my feelings
But, your constant threats and outbursts
I no longer find appealing.

NURTURE OUR PLANET

Suffocating from so much waste
Dumped into our rivers and oceans
Spills of oil and petroleum products
All the tubes, the caps and the lotions.

Money made from disposing all
The chemicals and the poisons
Released into the atmosphere
Despite the pleading voices.

All the slime and all the smells
Now come from deep below
Dead fish, dead grass and creatures
They have no place to go.

Stuck in the sludge of death and decay
That’s been dropped into their laps
This was not an accident
An unintentional, mistake or mishap.

Corporate plans to ease their load
More money in their pockets
Any attempt to repair the damage
Never makes it to their docket.

Clean air and water …the staples of life
Should never be taken for granted
We share this world under one umbrella
We need to nurture and preserve our planet.

THE MOON AND THE STARS

Sparkling diamonds fill the sky
As far as the eye can see
They were placed there one by one
Positioned so carefully.

Midnight blue with specks of silver
Ignite the glistening sky
The power of the universe
Is enough to make you cry.

Off to the side, but still in view
The moon among the clouds
Now cut in half, the crescent moon
Is embarrassed by the crowd.

Intimidated by their beauty
She slips back, she turns away
Not as impressive as a sparkling star
She’s afraid of what they’d say.

Silly being frightened
The moon stands all on its own
The moon and stars should mingle
Their appearance sets the tone.

A moonlit night, the sky above
Make a wish upon a star
Look up and see the spectacle
From wherever on earth you are.

Becomes the night’s love story.

HE DOESN’T CARE

He’s turned this nation upside down
He’s laughing, while we’re crying
He gets exactly what he wants
Thru cheating and by lying.

Every rule and every oath
Has been broken into pieces
He doesn’t care what you think
Just listen to his speeches.

Callous, cold and ignorant
All honor been lost
He doesn’t care if it’s fair
Or what it’s going to cost.

Divisive and corrosive
He is tearing us apart
Inciting hate and violence
Had his way right from the start.

Don’t know where this is going
I’m feeling terrified
No regard for what we want
All I can do is cry.

Protests and public outcry
Seems to fall upon deaf ears
How did all this happen?
How did we end up here?

THE WATER’S EDGE

Summers spent along the creek
We’d run down the sandy path
Heading to the waters’s edge
Where we kept our homemade rafts.

Two inner tubes tied together
Made quite a sturdy boat
As long as there were no holes made
We would stay afloat.

The water cold, the current swift
It would carry us for miles
The look upon our faces
Brings back a pleasant smile.

Catfish, turtles, snakes and frogs
We all shared the summer’s pleasures
Who knew those days would prove to be
A life memory to treasure.

At night we sat around the fire
Telling spooky stories
Toasting marshmallows on a stick
Some frightening, some gory

In the morning, up at dawn
I could hear the bacon frying
The smell of breakfast fills the air
Our towels on the line still drying.

Climbing down the wooden ladder
From our treehouse made of scraps
Sitting round the table
My baby brother in mama’s lap.

Trips to Europe, expensive vacations
Nothing ever topped those days
Summers spent at the water’s edge
In the heat of the summer haze.

NYC

Shameful secrets, hurtful words
Spoken unmercifully in your mind
Memories that are haunting you
Those times you crossed the line.

Foolishly you made mistakes
You gave away too much
So trusting and so innocent
You trembled with each touch.

Looking back you bow your head
Wishing you could wipe away
The many things that you did
You regret those foolish days.

You try your best to bury all
The hurt and humiliation
But, the regret and guilt persists
And the naked degradation.

Past mistakes, guilty pleasure
Will you ever be set free?
What can you do to stop the noise?
To block the memories?

SHOTS FIRED

Put down your shield and armor
Close your eyes and say, “Good Night”
You’ve fought your share of battles
You’ve been a brave and noble knight.

You shouldn’t have to try so hard
To defend your family
To stand up for what is right
For freedom and dignity.

Slavery was abolished
So many years ago
Yet your life’s being threatened
Be careful where you go.

Shots fired in your direction
Run and don’t look back
Young men are being murdered
Just for being….being black.

“Stop right there, put your hands up
Get your hands out of your pockets
Get down on the ground, don’t make a sound”
There’s no way you can try and stop it.

Everyone that passes by,
Or looks out of their window
Is taking out their cell phones
Trying to get this tapped on video.

Scared to death, you don’t dare move
You don’t know what to do
One false move, may be your last
It will be the end of you.
