OLIVE

Olive lived just down the street
Not very far from the ocean and beach
She spent her days mostly alone
She liked quiet time…time on her own.

She liked to paint, she liked to sing
She enjoyed talking about anything.
She liked to whistle, she played the flute
She was never bored,  always something to do.

Her house was small and rather eclectic
The pace she maintained was never hectic
She had beaded doors and lots of dream catchers
Several  chimes and an array of  feathers.

She played woodland music with waterfalls
She had fountains everywhere, for  nature called
Birds were heard chirping, lions roared
I wondered what the all the jars were for.

I later learned,  she made strawberry jam
Cared for  the animals and wouldn’t eat ham
She wore hippie attire, flip flops and  hats
She took care of the strays,  the dogs and the cats.

She burned incense and candles throughout the day
Her home was inviting, you wanted to stay
The setting  so comfortable,  you felt  so relaxed
You hoped you’d be welcome, you hoped you’d be back.

REHAB

Why leave me here
All by myself?
Can’t walk the halls
Cry out for help.

I’m not that strong
They make a fuss.
I make them angry
It’s  strenuous.

My legs can’t move
Can’t walk at all
I’m so scared
I’m going to fall.

They say I’m weak,
Tell me  to try
They keep pushing
I start to cry.

I am so tired
Can’t fall asleep
In such pain
I moan and weep.

I hear voices
In the night
I am afraid
They shut the light.

I lay here frightened
Confused, alone
Wanting you
To take me home.

The smell of food
The  scrambled eggs
The tray is cold
For goodness sakes.

A cup of coffee
No flavored cream
I feel like I
Am in a dream.

Breakfast served
Orange Juice and scones
I miss my wife
I miss my home.

Now old and weak
I have no choice
They speak for me
I have no voice.

Do what they say
It’s best for you
But,  I am scared
So sad, so  blue.

Please hold my hand
I’m all alone
Don’t leave me here
Please take me home.

HAPPY NEW YEAR (re-blog)

A new start, a new beginning…
A time for peace, a time for forgiving.
Open the door, let go and be free
The weight will be lifted, it’s time to believe.

Shed all of the old burdening feelings
Of anger and pain, begin to start healing.
Life is short, a mere fleeting moment
Rejoice and enjoy, the bliss of atonement.

Holding a grudge, casting blame
Will only bring heartache, will only bring shame.
Open your heart, open your arms
Step into the sunlight, away from the storm.

Farewell to the bludgeoning, cruelty and crazies
A New Year begins, a chance to show mercy.
To those who deserve it, to those who may not
Give all that you can, and all that you’ve got.

Banish the demons, shed the black clouds
Open your heart, remove the dark shroud.
The New Year is here, a new day beginning
It’s a time for peace, a time for forgiving.

MAKE A WISH

While playing by the water
I found a magic shell
It was one of a kind
As far as I could tell.

I was digging all around
With my shovel in my hand
I loved to dig and to play
In the warm and gritty sand.

It was a small , smooth,  little shell
About the size of a quarter
I planned to take it home
I washed it off in salty water.

I put it in my striped beach bag
Then put it on the table
I put it in my pocket
It didn’t need a special label.

Before, I went to bed
I held it in my hand
I made a wish and there appeared
A creature they called, Dan.

“Hello there, Little Boy”!
“Who are you?” , I asked with wonder.
“Who are you?”,  he replied.
Suddenly,?I heard some thunder.

“Okay, yes you did”, he gently said.
“My name is DAN.  And , you are?”
“I’m Theodore”!
“ So, what did you call me for, Theodore?”

“I didn’t call you, said the boy
I closed my eyes and made a wish,
And you appeared before me. in my mind you were a fish.

But, are you a genie?”, asked the boy.
“No, I don’t have a bottle.
I travel thru space….from above
I fly!  I never waddle!

It’s quite sandy, where I’m from
Sorry for the mess.
See the sand upon the floor?
“I do. I see it… I see it , yes”!

My mom will pick it up.
She’s always  cleaning the floor.
She’ll get out the broom
That’s what it’s used for”!

“It’s just a little bit.
She probably won’t mind.
“I’ll try to be more careful!
More careful the next time”

“So what would you like?
I’m here to grant a wish!
One special request ….i
What’s the first thing  on your list?”

“Okay, let me think!  I know….
How about a visitor from outerspace?
A martian, a creature
From a strange andcdifferent place?”

“Why your wish has already been granted!
I’m from the planet TAN
It’s light years away from here
And,  it’s covered with lots of sand”!

The boy became very excited
He was with an alien
They chatted for several hours
Before, he finally had given in.

He was getting very sleepy
He put his head down, then closed his eyes.
Just before falling asleep,
He heard Dan quietly say, “  Goodbye”.

His mom came into his room that morning
He told her about his visitor
His mom said it was just a dream
Then he did his best to prove it to her.

He was here!  He really was!
He left some sand upon the floor.
Look over there upon the floor
See the sand right by the door?

“I guess you’re right “ she said
And quickly got her broom.
She played along with Theodore
Then swept the sand out of his room.

Maybe it was just a dream
Maybe the alien wasn’t real
But Theodore didn’t really care
He liked the way it made him feel.

So every night before he slept
He’d dream about his friend, Dan
And sure enough, when he woke up guy
On the floor ….he’d find some sand.

BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE

Children in internment
Children all alone
Taken from their parents
His heart is made of stone.

The fear and absolute terror
Of being placed into a cage
A cage meant for an animal
What’s caused this act of rage?

A total lack of empathy
A lack of governing skills
The country is in chaos
He won’t change, he never will.

What is it going to take
To stop this wrecking ball?
The stock market is plunging
This country’s in free fall.

Other leaders standing by
Watching us implode
He has no idea of what to do
His true agenda now exposed.

All he cares about is money
Lining his pockets…his only goal
He refuses to listen to reason
He ignores the things  he’s  told.

Thinks he knows better, than the generals
Regarding strategies and plans
He’s walking us right into
The dictator’s evil hands.

It’s time to get the hook
It’s time to pull the plug
Stop this lunatic in his tracks.
This president’s a thug.

Impeach and then imprison
Dismantle his empire
He’s nothing but a coward
A shameless, heartless, evil liar.

This isn’t going to end well
There is no time  to waste
We need Mueller to take action
Before, it is too late.

FAMILY

Time spent with family
A memorable evening
Glasses of wine
Moments endearing.

The food on the table
The perfect setting
The chatter, the  fun
Worth never forgetting.

Talking about
The old and the new
Days gone by
All we’ve been through.

Candlelight flickers
The atmosphere gay
Sharing old stories
The old fashioned way.

Memories made
For us all to treasure
The love and the laughter
We’ll remember forever.

Christmas Eve

It’s Christmas Eve, but sadly it feels
Like any other regular day
I want to rejoice, be happy and glad
Time to feel oh so merry and gay.

The presents are wrapped and
Placed under the tree
I’m supposed to feel joyful
But, there are none there for me.

I must have been naughty
I must have been bad
I found coal in my stocking
Must of made Santa mad.

Next year,  l’ll be thoughtful
Less selfish next time
Won’t be in a hurry
Hope to change Santa’s mind.

Next year,  I’ll be kinder
Just you wait and see
I’ll do more for others
Less fortunate than me.

IT’S OVER

The wind picked up
The sky turned gray
You wanted to leave
Nothing left to say.

A wandering eye
A spark that waned
The thrill was gone
Emotions drained.

The plans we made
Had all been changed
A broken heart
All that remains.

A new beginning
A brand new start
You walked away
You broke my heart.

Disdain and boredom
Had sadly crept in
You lost interest
It had to end.

You needed more
She caught your eye
My worst fear
You cheated, you lied.

A stepping stone
Another wrung
A means to an end
It’s over, it’s done.

CHRISTMAS JOY

Shopping, rushing,
Wrapping gifts
Weary, so weary
Oh so tired of this.

Money spent
Feet are sore
What is all this
Really for?

Prices high
Expensive toys
Spoiling kids
Where’s the joy?

I say,  we simply
Make something
Cookies, cakes
With green icing.

Sweet and pretty
Warms your heart
Christmas taffy
To pull apart.

Candy canes
And,  lots of sprinkles
On cupcakes that
Glitter and twinkle.

A cup of chocolate
Warm and sweet
With marshmallows
The perfect treat.

CHRISTMASTIME

Holidays bring sadness
Thoughts of love that didn’t last
Missing those that are gone
Memories of the past.

Putting up the Christmas lights
Thoughts of holly, and Christmas trees
Listening to Christmas Carols
Wishing you were here with me.

The Christmas melancholy
Pervades the holidays
Wishing to change my mood
My thoughts, so dark and  grey.

Happiness is a state of mind
It’s time to start anew
You wouldn’t want me sitting here
Crying over you.

The Lionels still inside their box
I don’t know what to do
Losing you ….so hard for me
I sit here sad and blue.

But, it’s time to resurrect that train
Get the cars back on the tracks
They might be a little rusty
May need some oil and wax.

I’ll pour some sweet hot chocolate
Add a marshmallow and candy cane
I’ll start feeling better
Though things will never be the same.

A new day, a new chapter
The smell of peppermint and pine
Let’s make some Christmas cookies
Let’s be happy, it’s Christmastime.
