BACK ON TRACK

BACK ON TRACK

Sorry that you’re feeling sick
You’ll have to stay at home
You’ll have to play your video games
The ones on your cell phone.

I’ll bring you tea and chicken soup
You can watch your favorite shows
It will be so hard on you
To have to take it slow.

All your books and class assignments
Can be done on your computer
You can just lay back and relax
You won’t even need a tutor.

Nothing like getting time off
To be in your bed at home
Getting to sleep and taking it easy
Just to be left alone.

No more fights in the cafeteria
No gossiping or bullying
Taking a break from all of the noise
Can be invigorating and renewing.

The doctor says to get some rest
He says that it’s a fact
That drinking lots of fluids
Will get you back on track.

OUT ON THE PIER

Waves wash up and over the rocks
Piled up by the docks so high
Men are fishing from dawn to dusk
They like spending time with the guys.

Buckets, bait, whiskers and beards
Line the docks from bow to stern
Baseball hats and fishing poles
Their faces getting burned.

The sun shines bright from up above
Their hats and glasses fight the rays
The seagulls and the pelicans
Show up for lunch each day.

Lines and knives, pliers and rods
No needs are overlooked
Lines thrown out far and wide
Soon a fish is on the hook.

Radio plays the oldies, but goodies
Sub sandwiches and chips to share
Coolers overflowing with soda and beer
They’re so glad to spend time there.

They pass the time out on the water
Waiting for the next pull on their line
They reminiscence about days gone by
While they sip their beer and wine.

TAKE THEM DOWN

via Daily Prompt: Branch

Branch

The long branch of the law
Extends beyond both me and you
Let’s hope it is inclusive
And that Muller knows what to do.

Takes his time, meticulously
Gathering all of the evidence
Hoping he can build a case
Against our gluttonous, bullying president.

Taking them down, one by one
Indictments and subpoenas
Let’s see who has the last laugh
The lying pack of hyenas?

Let’s hope not, fingers crossed
Hope he puts them all in prison
I can’t see any other way
It’s the way that I now see em.

Behind bars, in orange jumpsuits
Still clamoring to be heard
But in time we’ll turn away
And not listen to a word.

Who cares what a vicious bully says
When he is destroying our democracy?
What in the world has he been doing?
He exemplifies hypocrisy.

First we must, put down the vile
Dishonest “sell out” politicians
Replace them with some honest men
Men who are above outright suspicion.

Our government has come apart
We need a better coalition
Hopefully, we can rebuild
Rebuild a stronger, better nation.

NOTHING BUT A CHARMER

via Daily Prompt: Typical

Typical

It’s so typical of you
To leave me standing there
Don’t know why I believed you
You never really cared.

You left me alone
You turned and walked away
You left me with nothing
I’ve got nothing more to say.

Wish I never met you
Can’t believe I fell for you
You turned your back on me
Now I don’t know what to do.

I don’t want you to call me
Don’t text or Instagram
Just forgot that you knew me
I’m better off, I know I am.

My heart is completely broken
I will never be the same
I hope I can forget you
And the way you spoke my name.

You’re nothing but a charmer
With a heart made out of stone
You left me feeling worthless
You left me all alone.

You never looked back, not once
Never gave me a second thought
You found what you were after
This one’s on you, it’s all your fault.

I did my best to make you happy
I gave in though you were wrong
All I ever wanted
Was a sense that I belonged.

But you were always cheating
Any chance to get over on me
Now all I want is for you
To get out and leave me be.

TRUTH AND HONOR

via Daily Prompt: Fabric

Fabric

What constitutes the fabric of your being?
Is it your quest for power or your need for justice?
Is it lying greed or
The fear that funds us?

Take a good look inside yourself,
Rely on your conscience, rely on your self
Look for a reason, some moral ground
Maybe, at last, you may have found.

That truth and honor outweighs the past
If you’re remembered, memories will last
Stand up and be counted, be kind and be strong
Learn to be forthright so you will belong.

Standing alone is isolating and cold
It wears you down and soon will get old
Stand up and be counted, raise your head high
Let everyone know your reasons why.

Why in a moment, a moment of time
You found yourself, your rhythm and rhyme
Now balanced and stable, you stand on your own
As a man of honor, you found your way home.

DIRTY AND SHADY

So dirty and shady
Yes, he’s taken bribes
He’s one of the sleaziest
Men that’s alive.

Hunting and scraping
Whatever he can
To pay for his condo
What a dishonest man.

Into collusion
Money laundering and more
Who’s watching the money?
Who’s keeping score?

Under the guise
Of peacemaker and friend
We’re getting cheated
All over again.

Credentials are lacking
Security faltered
Was his passport checked
Could it had been altered?

So many lies
Our funds he’s absconded
He’s looking for more
Do you think he has found them?

What should we do?
He needs to be charged
He’s out of control
He’s a thief still at large.

WHEN I WAS SEVEN

Sipping cider on the farm
Apple pie and blueberry
Mama making homemade cakes
And cobblers made with cherries.

Daddy’s pipe and overalls
Mama’s rocking chair and apron
Kitchen smells and dinner bells
All the memories that we’re making.

Tractor rides, hay bales, and stalls
Riding horses thru the pasture
Makes me think of better days
All the fun and all the laughter.

Chicken coops, pigs in a pen
Feeding chickens, cats and hogs
Getting thru my daily chores,
Then running with my dog.

Days gone by, what fun we had
Sunday mornings after church
Racing up the back porch steps
Always trying to be first.

Home cooked meals, served hot each day
Mashed potatoes and brown gravy
Tons of fresh green beans picked and served
From the garden to the table.

Now mama’s gone, and daddy too
Made their way straight up to heaven
Things aren’t what they used to be
The way they were, when I was seven.

CRAZY SUSAN

Crazy Susan lives in my neighborhood
Crazy Susan won’t leave me alone
Crazy Susan follows me everywhere
Crazy Susan lives too close to home.

She watches me, both day and night
She wanders, looking in and out of my window
She lives all by herself, all alone
I’ve heard them say, that she’s a widow.

She calls a lot, hanging on and hanging up
She sends texts from unknown numbers
She’s in my yard late at night
I can hear her quietly mumble.

I’m afraid, she could be armed
Have a gun, maybe a knife
She might follow me someday
She sneaks around, mostly at night.

People say that she is harmless
Just a little bit peculiar
But she could snap and make a move
Who knows, don’t know what fuels her.

Can’t take a chance, I will be ready
If one night she comes out walking
I’m afraid, afraid of her
Can’t they see, this woman’s stalking?

She’s been watching, watching me
Thru the day, night after night
I am freaked out and I’m afraid
She might attack, maybe tonight.

Called 911, they think it’s me
They don’t know, they haven’t heard her
If this keeps up, I can just see
They’ll get a call, “there’s been a murder”.

Hope it’s not me, that’s lying dead
I just know, she can’t be trusted
If they were smart, they’d take her in
Check her out and get her tested.

I’ve locked the doors, I’ve closed the windows
I’ve drawn the shades and closed the blinds
I hope she moves, or maybe I will
She’s bothered me too many times.

LOST

via Daily Prompt: Messy

Messy

Her hair was pretty messy
She looked somewhat disheveled
I hadn’t seen her in awhile
I was feeling quite unsettled.

Always neat and put together
Now she looked distraught and sad
Looked like she’d been treated badly
Then stuffed into a bag.

Her hair was awfully greasy
She smelled of cheap perfume
Her shoes were scuffed and tattered
She needed a bath and I mean soon.

I picked her up at the bus stop
She hadn’t waited very long
She said that she was hungry
I knew that something had gone wrong.

What can I do to help you?
“Let me stay with you awhile”
I said okay with trepidation
Then I mustered up a smile.

She had no luggage to speak of
Just a small black leather purse
Guess she figured coming back to me
Couldn’t make things any worse.

She had hit rock bottom
There was nowhere left to go
I drew her bath, gave her a towel
A brush and some clean clothes.

Once she had cleaned herself up
She looked more like herself
I was still in love with her
What could I do to help?

She didn’t stay with me very long
She was anxious to get back
Back to where she came from
I was calm and didn’t react.

I dropped her back off at the bustop
Gave her five hundred dollars and a phone
I told her if she changed her mind
She could always come back home.

She kissed my cheek
Then walked away
I watched the bus drive off
I knew I’d never see her again
Somehow she had gotten lost.

AMERICA

Our ethic’s laws have been shattered
They’ve been blown out of the water
No one tells the truth anymore
They think it doesn’t matter.

No one’s hands are clean
They’re all in thick, a pack of liars
The truth’s hung out to dry
And their pants are all on fire.

Tired of all their blatant lies
All the bought off politicians
They’re afraid of being honest
And losing their incentives.

Clean out the dirty, filthy swamp
It’s all one big disgrace
Our country’s being run into the ground
He hasn’t made America great.

I’m feeling so embarrassed
He’s made a fool of us
He’s been kissing up to Putin
He’s connected to Russia.

Dismantling every department
Removing regulations
It won’t foster more business
Just destroy our reputation.

He’s such a big mouth braggart
An obnoxious pompous fool
He’s taking us down a rabbit hole
He’s nothing but a rube.

When are you going to wake up
See the writing on the wall?
Our country’s taken a nose dive
And he’s responsible for it all.

Step up and call for justice
That means justice for everyone
Not just the top two percent
It’s time to get things done.

America the beautiful
America the great
We have to take our country back
Before it is too late.
