AT PEACE

Ever since I heard the news
I’ve been feeling so emotional
She left this earth far too soon
My loss so inconsolable.

All the times she laughed out loud
Are ringing thru my mind
I can’t forget the things she said
When I saw her one last time.

Wishing she was with me
Someone I could turn to
Someone to hang out with
Now I don’t know what to do.

She had a way about her
She could always make me laugh
Now all that I am left with
Is a faded photograph.

They say the best way to go
Close your eyes, just fall asleep
She was spared the agony
At least now, she is at peace.

A MAGICAL SPELL

via Daily Prompt: Conjure

Conjure

When you conjure up a potion
Best to include an eye of newt
My friend Esmeralda
Told me what to do.

She said to find a lizard
A snail, a frog or two
Add some muddy water
A snake and one old shoe

Mix them altogether
Stir them in a pot
Make sure to get the fire
Burning really hot.

Once you get it going
Just repeat after me
Gobblely Gook, Snookety Snook
Gambee, Snambee, Mambee.

The pot will boil before your eyes
The fire will turn blue and green
The smell will be so horrible
Would make a human scream.

Cook it for an hour, hot
Stir it, then let it simmer
When you’re done, you’ve conjured up
A potion that will win her.

All it takes is a magical spell
To bring you back together
Just get her to take one small sip
And, she’ll be yours forever.

DEEP INSIDE

No room to move
Stretched too thin
Looking back
No way in.

Trying hard
To step down
When I know
You’ll be around.

Scathing comments
Hurt like hell
My heart is bursting
No one can tell.

I keep it all
So deep inside
I swallow hard
To keep my pride.

Something’s wrong
Wrong with me
The rest of them
Can not see.

Don’t seem to mind
They ignore
No one to notice
The open door.

Take the pills
Don’t ask why
No pain to feel
No alibi.

THEY’RE DROPPING LIKE FLIES

What seems to be happening?
They’re dropping like flies
My family and friends
So many have died.

It’s pretty scary
Am I next in line?
How long do I have?
So soon out of time.

Once over fifty
There’s nowhere to go
But six feet under
A few feet below.

Getting your ducks
All in a row
Make all your plans
Before you must go.

Get it together
Information to share
Talk to your family
And whoever cares.

I’ll opt for cremation
No worms, please no bugs
Scatter my ashes
Just make sure I’m drugged.

The next diagnosis
Diseases and falls
Lead to demise
And our death after all.

Consider your blessings
Make the most of each day
Who knows when your time’s up
It could be today.

LIKE MAGIC

via Daily Prompt: Mnemonic

Mnemonic

Using a mnemonic
Helped me to recall
Without it I would flounder
My grades would surly fall.

Making the connection
With so many facts and figures
The words that would escape me
Now so easy to deliver.

Taking every single test
With this amazing newfound aid
Finally made it possible
To make a passing grade.

Like magic I could not believe
The answers to the questions
Appearing right before my eyes
Through word association.

Suddenly with A’s and B’s
My future became certain.
I felt like I could now achieve
I’d become a different person.

Thanks to Bob for helping me
He introduced me to mnemonics
And though it had brought us very close
We kept our relationship platonic.

Love and feelings get in the way
I couldn’t concentrate on drama
I had to get my goals in line
The rest was left to karma.

NEVER THE SAME

Gently I feel the breeze
As it brushes against my face
I search for you everywhere
I’ve looked every place.

For any sign of you
To help me to remember
To hear your voice inside my head
To erase the noise and thunder.

The sparkle in your eyes
Your laughter and your smile
If only I could be with you
For just a little while.

The memories begin to fade
They disappear one by one
The days we spent together
All the grandeur, all the fun.

No one will ever take your place
They’ll be no substitutions
There’s only one of you
Just you, who eases my confusion.

My twisted past, my cross to bear
You helped to see me through
You were my guiding force, my light
You knew just what to do.

I walk alone without you
I stand alone withdrawn
I’ll never be the same again
Now that you, alas….are gone.

NEVER ENOUGH

Cornered and pushed
Never enough
I do what I can
The going is rough.

Setting the bar
Too high for me
Leave me alone
Please let me be.

Tethered and straddled
Stripped down and scorned
Feeling so shallow
Feeling forlorn.

Beaten and bruised
Beyond recognition
Why am I driven
Obsessed with ambition?

Striving to win
Crossing the line
Hoping the prize
Will be better this time.

Why are you running
Faster and faster?
What is you want
What is it you’re after?

The end is near
6 feet and under
The roar of the crowd
The end of your thunder.

SHE’S NOT FOR YOU

via Daily Prompt: Insist

Insist

If you insist on bringing your dog on dates
You can expect to be on your own
Most people would be put off by this
Might wanna leave your dog at home.

If you insist on talking about your mom
And the fun you two have together
If you go on and on about her
She won’t think you’re very clever.

Discussing the unemployment line
And your car payment that’s overdue
Might be considered a warning sign
And turn her off on you.

Your interest in the internet
Your focus on photography
Could have been a talking point
Till you brought up the pornography.

Suggesting you two should split the bill
While sitting eating dinner
She may think you’re somewhat selfish
A big loser, not a winner.

When the waiter brings the wine list
And you ask for wine in a box
That’s as unacceptable as you
Wearing those two different socks.

Speaking of your wardrobe
That Hawaiian shirt seems out of place
Did you notice her disapproval
And the look upon her face?

She wore a simple black silk dress
Her hair was tastefully done
You wore shorts and sneakers
And a shabby short man bun.

Forget about the classy chicks
Do what you want to do
Consider that it’s her loss
If she’s not that into you.

STEEL LADY

She cuts thru me like a razor blade
I fall victim every time
My blood runs cool, though her words cut deep
In the end, a restless night of sleep.

Up with the sun, her scorching tongue
Has already begun its assault upon the day
She begins her attack, stays on my back
Until she’s sure to get her way.

Steady hands and peace of mind
I left them somewhere in my past
She’s gotten to me, slowly with ease
Terminating my spirit at last.

Through it all, though pain prevails
I love her nonetheless
And couldn’t even if I wanted to
Ever get myself out of this.

Because Steel Lady, you’re as sharp as they come
I never stood a chance.
We were always just close enough
To share this double-edged romance.

THE SPLENDOR

The splendor of the morning
Brings back the memories
I faintly hear you calling
Hear your whisper in the breeze.

I can see you in the garden
Your skin glistening in the sun
You planted every flower
They’re now blooming one by one.

Sad and yet elated
By the joy the garden brings
I listen with an open heart
As the birds begin to sing.

I walk alone at sunset
The smell of roses in the air
It helps me to remember
Your gentle smile, your skin so fair.

The splendor of the morning
Brings back the memories
I faintly hear you calling
As you say “Good Night” to me.
