JusJoJan Prompt: Humiliate

He did his best, to humiliate me
Despite my concern for his wellbeing
I did what I could, to look out for him
But after years of abuse, I was leaving.

Years of his lies and demeaning remarks
How many times did we play out this scene?
My arm would be twisted behind my back
It hurt so bad, I would scream.

Blood on the towel, I was sure it was broken
My nose would continue to bleed
This kind of love was not what I wanted
It was hard for me to believe.

It wasn’t love that kept me there
It was a lack of respect for myself
My need to submit, his need to control
It was clear that we both needed help.

The arguing got louder, the tensions higher
I felt his hands wrap around my throat
As he squeezed harder, I couldn’t breathe
I gasped for air, as I frantically choked.

I thought he was going to end my life
He stood there with hate in his eyes
He finally released his grasp on my neck
It was then that I realized.

The threatening words, the physical pain
Why was I putting up with it all?
I should have called the police, right then
But, I was scared and afraid to call.

He said he was sorry, he begged my forgiveness
I gave in and hung up the phone
He held me close and began to cry
I was afraid, I felt so alone.

But, like a switch on the wall, the light came on
When he fell asleep, I made my move
I packed my bags, I walked out the door
Left a note that read, “We’re Through”!

I first saw her, from a distance
She was riding a Trek mountain bike
She had stopped in for a cup of coffee
That was something I knew, we both liked.

She took off her bicycle helmet
Walked toward the coffee shop door
I thought for a moment I might know her
But, I had never seen her, before.

I wanted a chance to talk to her
But, first checked her hand for a ring
No point in making a connection
If it was over before it begins.

I stood in line, right behind her
Her hair looked somewhat windblown
She wore khakis and a blue cardigan sweater
She was carrying her helmet and phone.

She ordered a Venti Macchiato
She sat by the window inside
She was quietly minding her business
But, looked like she wanted to cry.

Her phone suddenly started ringing
I saw her take it out and then turn it off
She looked like she was somewhat troubled,
Maybe distracted, perhaps deep in thought.

I walked gingerly over to her table
Not wanting to seem like a nuisance
She looked up and saw me before her
I was armed with a million excuses.

Can I get you a croissant with butter?, I asked.
They make the best here, some with chocolate too!
She smiled but refused my offer
Now embarrassed, I felt like a fool.

She asked me if I wanted to join her
I couldn’t help but note a few tears
I sat down on a chair, right beside her
Was it love that she wanted, or feared?

Even before, I had the courage to ask her,
She was telling me about her friend, on the phone
Her relationship was unraveling
And, she was afraid to be left, on her own.

I assured her that things would get better
Told her, it was just a matter of time
I wished I could reach out and hold her
But, we both knew that would be out of line.

We finished drinking our coffee
Our time together had come to an end
We said goodbye out in the parking lot
I suggested we meet up again.

She agreed to meet me, for coffee
If nothing else, maybe we could be friends
I was happy to spend time together
More than happy, to see her again.

via Daily Prompt: Undulate

Watching the waves, as they undulate
The surfers skillfully move on their boards
The artful maneuvers they demonstrate
Like a knight yields a sharp, steel sword.

The rush of the ocean’s powerful force
The salt air spraying upon their face
The feel of the board beneath their feet
Propelling them thru time and space.

The higher the waves, the better they feel
Gliding from one peak to the other
The best part of it all, they are guaranteed
A wave following one, then another.

Just past the break, they patiently wait
For a wave, that is not like the others
That combination of height and speed
The sound reminiscent of thunder.

Paddling thru, the surfer knows well
The faster he moves thru the ocean
The better the board will pass over all
Once he’s up, it will feel like slow motion.

The thrill of the ride, the sand, and the sun
Each day filled with anticipation
Could this be the day, will this be the ride
The one that exceeds expectations?

The surfer alone waits for the wave
Riding high, while up on his board
It’s all that he knows, or really wants
It’s what he spends his day, waiting for.

via Daily Prompt: Brilliant

“Brillant”, that’s you . . . the mastermind
With tricks and gimmicks up your sleeve
You slithered in and found a way
To take just what you need.

You call yourself a “genius”.
So self-involved are you
Think you have the answers
Know exactly what to do.

You’ve aggravated leaders
You have pissed them off
Now, we have to worry
Why you leisurely play golf.

You are wreaking havoc
Our nation’s upside down
The entire free world is laughing
They call you, “a pompous clown”.

How did you get elected?
A heartless psychopath
A selfish, egotistical man
Who bullies, then just laughs?

Irresponsibly empowered
By a group of greedy men
Who lack a moral compass
A cheated, stolen win.

A wheeler and a dealer
No regard for honesty
Looking out for “fat cats”
Not the average guy like me.

Filling up your pockets
Thru tax reform and more
Taking every dime you can
That’s what you came here for.

Nepotism, emoluments
Misappropriation of funds
Encouraging lobbyists
Deregulations, and more guns.

You are quite the master
Of lies, denial, and deceit
A disgrace to the presidency
Not what this country needs.

I pray to God for karma
I pray to him each night
To remove you from the office
For Congress to do, what is right.

via Daily Prompt: Forlorn

I’m feeling so sad and so forlorn
I’m trying to make it right
So much time spent, trying to explain
Why I can’t stay, the night.

This isn’t going anywhere
There’s no point, in us still trying
We’ll end up, where we always do
With us fighting, and you crying.

Both of us, have done our best
Tried so hard, to find a way
But, after such hurtful, cruel remarks
What more is there to say?

I don’t want to hurt you
You know, I’ll always care
I wish that I still loved you
But, the feeling isn’t there.

You’re hanging on, for something
We lost so long ago
We can’t change what’s happened
You’ve got to let me go.

via Daily Prompt: Funnel

I’d like to build a tunnel
One that leads to paradise
A world that’s free of hatred
Prejudice, Greed, and Vice.

What’s happened to our honor?
We once stood for liberty.
Now they plan to segregate
We are no longer free.

They’ve taken all the money
Their plan to funnel thru
As much as they can squander
With no thought, to protect you.

The lobbyists, the corporations
No longer skimming from the top
They’ve found a way to take it all
This really has to stop.

No longer a democracy
This path leads to destruction.
Isolating, devastating
A pool of vile corruption.

Threatening words, meant to be
An attempt at intimidation
Will lead to an unimaginable war
And our planet’s annihilation.

We’ve got to take our country back
Stand up to politicians
Party before country, cannot be. . . .
A viable position.

We met at a local coffee shop,
She was standing on line, right behind me
I heard her laugh, as I asked out loud
“Can you put some honey, in my coffee”?

I felt embarrassed, somewhat taken aback
When she suggested I order a Macchiato
She knew what she was talking about
She herself, a coffee aficionado.

Her eyes were blue, her hair was long
I felt a pang of lust and wonder
I hoped she might be interested in me
Even after my flustering blunder.

She was carrying a notebook, a pad and a pen
I assumed that she was a writer
Maybe an artist of modest means
A bohemian type, an outsider.

I’m an old hippie myself, a naturalist
Not much into drinking hot coffee
She caught my eye, I loved her smile
Though, I noted she was kind of bossy.

Desperately trying to hear her name
When the barista took her order
It was then, that I began to laugh, to myself
Cause they called her, “Fluffernutter”.

What kind of name could that actually be?
Was she kidding, just goofing around?
She smiled, when she picked up her coffee cup
Went to a table and then sat it down.

Said, she often made up a name, for herself
When making her coffee selections
She thought that it was somewhat amusing
And, a good way to make a connection.

We sat together, at a table for two
I couldn’t take my eyes off her
I tried to buy her a second cup
But, she politely refused my offer

I was somewhat smitten and in awe of her
Her smile, admittedly captivating
I wanted to get to know her better
She was charming and so fascinating.

She gave me her number, I gave her mine,
We met for coffee, the very next day
We talked about movies, articles, and books
Then had lunch at her favorite café.

She expressed herself in looks and attire
She wore scarves and colorful hats
She made me smile, she made me laugh
She was incredibly good at that.

Twenty years later, now old and gray
I’d say, life couldn’t get any better.
I never dreamed that she would marry me
That we would actually end up, together.

via Daily Prompt: Winsome

A winsome way about her
With a twinkle in her eyes
She could win you over
Walk away, then say goodbye.

If you get too close to her
Or step into her web
You’ll do anything she wants
Believe just what she says.

Narcissistic personality
A textbook psychopath
While you stand there crying
She will look at you, and laugh.

No way of getting over her
Her memory will haunt you
You’ll wish you never met her
You’ll wish, you didn’t want her.

Clearly evil personified
The devil in disguise
Be leary, when it sounds too good
Don’t look into her eyes.

If she meets you at a party
Comes up and wants to dance
Get the hell away from her
While you still have the chance.

via Daily Prompt: Allergic

My brother has an allergy
He keeps sneezing, all over me.
He’s always wiping and blowing his nose
On me, on the furniture and even his clothes.

He finishes each sentence by saying, “AH CHOO”!
My mom didn’t know, what to do
So, she took him to an allergist
She asked around and found the best.

My brother was unable, to stop his sneezing.
There had to be a simple reason.
Was it spinach, beets or brussels sprouts?
What was this sneezing, all about?

They finally found the simple cause
They stopped his sneezing, once and for all.
It seemed to be our mom’s detergent
Making my brother feel, so allergic.

She bought it at the grocery store
It was different than, she used before.
She bought it with a grocery coupon
Who knew, it’s where this allergy came from.

So, if you start off sneezing
For no apparent reason,
Remember, it might be
A simple, “AH CHOO”. . . allergy.

via Daily Prompt: Viable

She needed a viable organ
Her heart was broken and weak
Her parents sat at her bedside
Afraid and unable to speak.

To speak about the outcome
If an organ could not be procured
She would pass into a coma
Her voice would no longer be heard.

A little girl with dolls and toys
She loved to play outside
Now, attached to catheters and lines
A mother’s fear, so hard to hide.

She held her hand, while holding back
The flow of endless tears.
She didn’t want to upset her
Let her know, the end was near.

Just when time was running out
Word came, there was a donor
There was chance she might survive
But, a young boy’s life was over.

His mother, overcome with grief
Asked God in heaven above
To bless her decision, to donate his heart
A mother’s true gift of love.

Tears of joy, and gratitude
Tears of sadness and of pain
So sad, to realize one’s deepest loss
Being, someone else’s gain.

The gift of life, more precious
Than diamonds, or coins of gold
The kindness of a mother’s love
A priceless treasure, to behold.
