FRANTIC

via Daily Prompt: Frantic

Frantic

I was frantic to get out of the house
To run as fast and as far, as I could
I knew I should have stayed and talked
But I couldn’t do, or say… what I should.

My heart was shattered, I was out of control
I could feel my heart racing
My love for you was all that I knew
But, now heartache was all I was facing.

We hold on tight, don’t want to let go
Thinking it all will stay the same
But feelings are fluid, they come and they go
Nothing is guaranteed to remain.

Heart and soul, all that I am
I gave to you without hesitation
Now you’re saying it’s over, we’re thru
What happened to the lust and elation?

One special love that’s all we get
One brass ring on the merry go round
Now, you’ll spend your life with someone else
Someone better than me that you found.

Over and over, and over again
Thinking back to when you were mine
Tortured and hurt I have regrets
Hoping things will get better in time.

SPRING BREAK

Alone on the beach
What a beautiful day
The children on break
They run and they play.

Parents supervising
Lifeguard close by
The children wading
The pull of the tide.

Cold drinks on ice
Beach towels and lotion
Sandy feet
Running into the ocean.

Surfboards and tubes
Paddleboards and more
Surfers paddling
Close to the shore.

Chips and dogs
Building sand castles
Fisherman wading
Untangling tackle.

Come down to the beach
Set up your chairs
It won’t be long
We all will be there.

COOL AND CHIC

via Daily Prompt: Quartet

Quartet

A quartet was playing at THE CUBBY HOLE
Four gals had gotten together
They were an unassuming group
A small crowd had started to gather.

Two played guitars, one violin
The last girl played the drums
Their music was surprisingly good
I loved each song they sung.

It was rare to have live music
At a small dive bar downtown
The crowd got pretty hefty though
People came from all around.

Word got out and it didn’t take long
They had a unique kind of sound
People sat back and listened to them
Their music was the best in town.

Who knew a few unassuming gals
Could rock the lower east side
With tunes about their life and loves
The ones who left and lied?

Rock n roll, mellow and sweet
They wrote all of their own songs
You knew they would be hitting the charts
It wouldn’t take too long.

Now I hear them on the radio
Their sound is quite unique
I knew that they would make it
They’re considered cool and chic.

Glad I got their autographs
The night I went downtown
I knew that they’d be famous
Now the hottest thing around.

FALLING APART

Falling apart
Can’t stop wondering why
You walked away
There were tears in my eyes.

The pain and discomfort
I’m black and I’m blue
The day that you left me
When you said we’re thru.

Tender and fragile
Didn’t know what to do
I felt devastated
So in love with you.

Your arms around me
Your words made me cry
The moment you said
It was over…goodbye.

I couldn’t stop crying
I kept asking why
There were no explanations
Only heartache and lies.

The tears, the regret
The unwillingness to
Start all over
Nothing more I could do.

STIFLED

via Daily Prompt: Micro

Micro

She tried to micromanage me
I found it so intense
She kept hovering over me
Which made so little sense.

I like to work by myself
I prefer to work alone
Don’t want to have to compromise
Prefer being on my own.

She stifled and corrected me
It was so suffocating
I had to walk out several times
To stop my hands from shaking.

“Do this, do that, No…. not that “
She was always in my face
She couldn’t seem to help herself
I needed my own space.

Once I got away from her
I started to feel better
I can’t go back and be with her
I said goodbye in a short letter.

“Sorry but I can’t go on
You just won’t let me be
I need to spend some time alone
Where you can’t bother me”!

A LULLABYE

Having trouble sleeping
I need to get some rest
Sleeping thru the night
Is an issue more or less.

Counting sheep, counting stars
Just doesn’t work for me
I can’t seem to fall asleep
Can’t escape anxiety.

I toss and turn, I flip and flop
I get up and drink some water
I walk around, I lay back down
I need help for my disorder.

All night long I close my eyes
But daylight puts me under
When I’m awake and the sun is out
My body wants to finally slumber.

Crazy how my days mix up
Have suddenly crossed over
I need to get some rest tonight
Maintain a calm composure.

Mediation and hypnosis
Haven’t helped me very much
I guess I need a sedative
Or some other special touch.

A back rub and some lotion
Soothing music might be nice
Can’t let this become a habit
An affliction, or a vice.

Going to close my eyes now
Listening to a lullaby
I have to try and fall asleep
It’s getting dark outside.

TIME TO GO

via Daily Prompt: Inefficient

Inefficient

You were simply inefficient
You didn’t get things done
She needed someone sharper
This was not a game for fun.

There were a lot of expectations
Deadlines and quotas to be met
You spent too much time chatting
Important meetings you’d forget.

A professional appearance
Mattered more than you realized
Your baggy pants, your scuffed shoes
And those stained and wrinkled ties.

Didn’t quite go over
Weren’t what she had in mind
You should have paid attention
And always been on time.

Walking in with coffee cups
A donut in each hand
Made you look so sloppy
Not quite what she had planned.

A corporate appearance
With a detailed presentation
Would have gotten you much further
Now she expects your resignation.

Wishing you well and future success
Hope you can get yourself together
Assemble all your assets
And pull yourself together.

For now, clean out your desk
Try not to take this personally.
You’ll find your check inside this envelope
Just leave your badge with security.

I LOVE BACON

I love bacon, but I love pigs more.
Two eggs over easy with the “b-word” and fries tastes so good, but I can’t in good conscience.

I watched a video.
They showed how the pigs were put to death
and it broke my heart.
I can’t, in good conscience, eat bacon anymore.

They’re intelligent, as smart or even smarter than a dog.
Just can’t go there.
I can’t in good conscience enjoy a BLT.

Charlotte’s Web
One of my all-time favorites
Wilbur, really?
I could never in good conscience, sell him at the fair.

“PIGGY TOES”, a game I played with my kids
This little piggy went to market!
I can’t in good conscience, forget how it made them laugh.

Pigs make good pets. They shouldn’t be eaten
It’s just not right
I can’t in good conscience, enjoy a pork tenderloin.

Pork Chops
That’s out of the question
No matter what
I can’t in good conscience, forget where they came from.

Pigs in the blanket
Whoops…
I think that’s a reference to cows, pigs, and other weird animal parts.
Well, I can’t in good conscience, forget about those hot dogs.

I do love bacon
But, I love the pigs more
Guess, I should start looking at produce
next trip to the store.

THE SWALLOW

via Daily Prompt: Swallow

Swallow

The swallow soars and glides
A small, unintrusive, little bird
They are aerial feeders
Or at least that’s what I’ve heard.

I had a small farm once with two barns
And a chicken coup
I often watched them fly by
They were quick and they were cute.

British sailors often got tattoos depicting swallows
Sometimes six or maybe even seven
They believe that if they died
The swallows would carry their souls to heaven.

The swallows are also known
For devouring lots of bugs and mosquitoes
Gnats and flies and other insects
They swoop down, fly thru the air… as fast as a torpedo.

The swallows consume so many bugs
As many as eight hundred and fifty in a day
Guess they are a benefit
Considered better than bug spray.

I love the simple swallows
They make me think of summer
They’re quick like hummingbirds
Though their wings don’t make a flutter.

Summer breezes, clean fresh air
They fill the sky, a welcomed sight
I long to see them fly
Bringing me such pure delight.

THE MARCH FOR OUR LIVES

I went to the “March For Our Lives” yesterday in Melbourne, Florida. It was amazing to see over 3,000 people gathered locally and to learn that there were 800,000 gathered in Washington DC. The speeches given by the students were amazing!!!

The purpose of the march was to try and garner awareness and hopefully put an end to gun violence, in the United States. The march was held in other countries outside of the U.S., as well. Thank you to everyone that participated! We are grateful for your support!!!!

There were small children, teens, adults and grandparents … all in attendance! Kudos to the students of Parkland, Florida….who have rallied millions of people… all over our country and the world!!!!!

Our country is in crisis. Hopefully the politicians will come to their senses! Trump played golf at Mar-a-Lago yesterday, instead of attending the march and showing solidarity for the students…. who have lost friends and loved ones… in the tragic shooting that occurred, at their school. These students are future voters! They are the hope of our country!!!! I am hopeful that change is forthcoming!
