Wading

Wading thru the muck and waste
My eyes are filled with tears
The water marred with brown sewage
The day of wreckening is here.

Corporate sludge, dumped each day
The fish, the mammals… dead
Greedy men with no conscience
Line their pockets, move ahead.

The beauty of the planet’s lost
It’s all about profit margins
They don’t care what becomes
Of the wildlife that is starving.

Strangled, loss of oxygen
Dying by the thousands
The fish float upon the surface
While they collect endowments.

Overthrow the men who rule
Take them out of office
Bring back the days of clean and green
Clean the water from our faucets.

Get a plan, take a stand
You have to get involved
Our voices must be loud and strong
To get this problem solved.

MEMORIAL DAY

Ceremony

PROMPT: CEREMONY

They will have a ceremony
They will raise their flags
They will salute to those who have made
The ultimate sacrifice.

Honor, duty and loyalty
They stand for what is right
Willing to do whatever it takes
They hold their ground and fight.

Don’t take freedom for granted
It comes with a hefty price
Many wounded, captured and/or tortured
So many have lost their lives.

We have parades and picnics
We celebrate their service
Men and women in uniform
With honor they serve to protect us.

WORK YOUR MAGIC

Please wave your magic wand
Erase the memories
Remove the thoughts and playbacks
That have a hold on me.

So interwined and tangled
Like twisted vines of weathered rope
They hold me tight, I can’t move
I’ve lost all sense of hope.

So long ago I faltered
I made some dumb mistakes
I can’t go back and change them
Why can’t I catch a break?

Consumed and over-taken
By a lingering dark cloud
It hangs right there above me
Like a web…. a dark gray shroud.

Please can’t you work your magic?
Please conjure up a spell
Take away the nightmares
Of this constant living hell?

Release me from this prison
I’m plagued with guilt and blame
We all deserve a second chance
To make things right again.

A MOM’S CRY FOR HELP

Each day I am with you
More precious than gold
The clock keeps on ticking
We were young, now we’re old.

The wisdom we’ve garnered
We intended to share
To impart on our children
With love and with care.

We sit in the garden
Look out at the trees
Remember our childhood
All the scrapes on our knees.

It all happens so fast
You look back and remember
Playing outside
Coming home to eat dinner.

Taking our lunch
In a brown paper bag
Playing “hide and go seek”
All the fun that we had.

But, what’s happened, what changed?
Where did it go wrong?
What caused the aggression?
The innocence is gone.

Kids now in a rage
Killing and mamiming
Hurting each other
The pain and the blaming.

It was once all so simple
Kickball and jumprope
No threats, no fear
We chewed gum, we passed notes.

The school once a place
To learn and have fun
Now we are fearful
Of the kid with a gun.

That one empty soul
So angry, so sad
Wants to cause pain
He has simply gone mad.

No way to imagine
No way to prepare
For the way you would feel
So frightened and scared.

Video games
Intended for fun
Now just a lesson
On killing someone.

Bring back the days
Of innocence and joy
A time you weren’t scared
Of a damaged young boy.

What is the answer?
More guns to fight back?
More bloodshed, more anger
To fuel the attack?

Where does it stop?
How long will it take?
To correct the problem
To fix this mistake?

MAKE IT HAPPEN

Prompt: ARCHAIC

An archaic means of coping
To rely on booze and pills
To hope that things will calm down
By sheer wishing and good will.

Take charge and make things happen
Keep your mind clear and free of drugs
You need all of your faculties
Every plan you can think of.

Don’t leave it all to chance, my friend
Don’t count on ‘hit and miss”
Make up your mind to do your best
To take good care of this.

Get on track, stay on course
There is turmoil up ahead
But you can manage all of it
By getting out of bed.

Making good decisions
Requires an open mind
Go in with your eyes open
Don’t be left behind.

Guilty Pleasure

via Daily Prompt: Guilty

Guilty

Guilty pleasure
Led me astray
The look in your eyes
The words you would say.

I abandoned it all
I fell so hard
Wish I knew all along
Wish I knew from the start.

You played me and used me
Took all that I had
You left me ashamed
And feeling so bad.

Now I am plagued
I can still see your face
But, every thought and memory
If I could… I’d erase.

I heard you laughing
You bragged and complained
I’m now torn and wounded
Left hurt and maimed.

On to another
Who’s fallen for you
They have no idea
What you are up to.

Guilty

via Daily Prompt: Guilty

Guilty

Guity as charged
The judge decreed
Though he was innocent
He wouldn’t be free.

Years imprisoned
Held behind bars
There was no justice
For him so far.

A young girl had lied
What she said wasn’t true
But her mother encouraged her
They had planned what to do.

Lies were told
He was aptly shamed
They laughed and celebrated
They’d won the game.

One year later
As he sat in his cell
He learned they were killed
But the truth died as well.

Karma will find you
No one escapes
Their fate had been sealed
Their lives were not saved.

The young girl was gone
No one shed a tear.
His life had been ruined
His name never cleared.

DON’T ASSUME

via Daily Prompt: Assumption

Assumption

You’re making an assumption
Sounds like prejudice to me
If you don’t have all the facts
There’s no reason to agree.

Keep your own opinions
Keep them to yourself
Voicing false concerns
Will be of little help.

If you don’t have all the facts
Best to wait and take the time
To figure it all out
You just might change your mind.

Being open and fair-minded
Is a better path to take
Being too presumptuous
Could be a big mistake.

YOU WALKED AWAY

via Daily Prompt: Disappear

Disappear

I watched you disappear from sight
I watched you walk away
I watched my world crumble before me
There was nothing left to say.

What happened to the two of us
The dreams I thought we shared?
How could I’ve been so clueless
To think you really cared?

You lied, you took advantage
You walked out on me
Now I feel so foolish
I have been set free.

I gave up my heart and soul
To prove my love for you
None of this was real for you
None of it was true.

Now you’re with someone new
Just another pretty face
Someone else to be with you
I have been replaced.

It saddens me to think of her
And what pain she will go thru
The day she gets left behind
The day she learns the truth.

THE MONEY AND THE GOLD

via Daily Prompt: Disappear

Disappear

I watched you disappear
I sat there and I waited
You were never coming back
The memories now have faded.

Guess I always knew
You were never mine to keep
I knew it as I watched you
Lie beside me sound asleep.

No sense of guilt or shame
Kept you awake at night
I could never rest
Knowing something wasn’t right.

I never stood a chance
The money wasn’t there
That’s all you ever wanted
You never really cared.

From one place to another
Climbing one rung at a time
You knew where you were going
You weren’t about to change your mind.

The winner has the treasure
So easily bought and sold.
That’s all that satisfies you
The money and the gold.
