PARADISE

Run down
Slow down
Always so conflicted.

Boxed out
Shut out
Ignored and so constricted.

Another day in Paradise.
Another uphill climb
Like sand within the hour glass
You’re running out of time.

Show up
Man up
It’s all up to you.

Uptight
Downright
Feeling black and blue.

Another day in Paradise.
Another uphill climb
Gotta find your Mojo
Before you lose your mind.

Sweep up
Clean up
Get your files in order.

Count down
Rebound
Gotta try a little harder.

ALL ABOUT YOU

Stepping down, out for yourself
Can see it works for you
Taking care of number one
Is what you plan to do.

Pulling out, no surprise
I knew… you’d get your way
After all is said and done
You’d up and walk away.

Anxious now…. off you go
You found somebody new
It’s okay, it will work
Work out great for you.

Before you go, don’t forget
Forget my broken heart
A souvenir you took from me
Was yours right from the start.

Late night calls, the lies, deceit
Guess I’ve always known
No surprise or second thoughts
You’d leave me here alone.

Out for yourself
It’s all about you
Nothing left
Nothing more I can do.

ENTICED

Pulled the cord,
Pulled  it twice
So easily
You were enticed.

Windy skies
Cold as ice
No rescue, though
No not tonight.

Wish I could
Have changed your mind.
But we ran out
Ran out of time.

An open door
You let her in
You told her that
We were… just friends.

No parachute
I’m losing you
No safety net
What can I do?

Tandem jump
One on one
Just like that
Complete. It’s done.

Hanging on
Spinning round
In record time
We hit the ground.

No parachute
I’m losing you
There’s no chance
No ….. not with you.

TARNISHED

All the times you lied…. you cheated
Left me in the cold
All the needless, empty promises
The stories that you told.

Watching you both there… together
Walking hand in hand
Having to hold my head up high
Too much for me to stand.

Too hot for me to handle
Now tarnished, turned to rust
Before you met her … so shiny new
Before I lost all trust.

The tears, the pain, consumed with sorrow
Overtaken, filled with grief
No way to  explain what I feel
The wound too grave… too deep.

Crushed, forlorn, purely devastated
Paralyzed … unable  to move
Standing here looking on
As she walks in with you.

LANDMINE

Walking through a landmine
Is how I feel…. each time
Each time I’m talking to you
Wish I could change your mind.

Trying to get through to you
But, you make so little sense
You close your eyes, you close your mind
You’ve built a weak defense.

From down below the rabbit hole
You’ve managed to emerge
Clothed in broad delusions
Of theories you have heard.

I’m looking for a reason
To convince me I should stay
But your beliefs and reasons
Are scaring me away.

The grievous accusations
Swirling in your mind
The lies, the machinations
The truth gets left behind.

The line’s been drawn in earnest
You’ve opted to take sides
You stand behind the scolds and thieves
Their fear and menacing lies.

Denouncing honest virtue
Such rage you feel inside
Makes me feel such sorrow
Makes me want to cry.

IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU

Didn’t listen, tried to tell you
It’s not always about you
I was in it for the long-haul
Now we’re done, now we’re through.

The late night talks, the romance
Never thinking this would end
The secrets that you told me
All your deep and wicked sins.

All the whispers in the darkness
It was my turn to confess
I trusted you to be there
Felt so safe in your caress.

The feelings, the emotions
Guilt and pleasure intertwined
I trusted you, I loved you
But, oh those tell tale  signs.

Working late again tonight
No doubt you’re not alone
I won’t be made a fool of
I’ll be gone… when you get home.

WALK AWAY

I know you said you’re sorry
Didn’t mean to be so cruel
All the times I listened to ya
You played me for such a fool.

I should’a left you sooner
Boxed it up and headed home
Didn’t want to let you go
Didn’t want to be alone.

So much glitter, so much charm
All the prestige you portrayed
Always hanging off the edge
Always feeling so afraid.

All my time and my affection
Nothing left to give myself
Always  craving my attention
You took it all, all for yourself.

Can’t go back, I can’t start over
There’s no way to try again
I’ve had enough of being lied to
I don’t want to be just friends.

Don’t try… don’t text or call me
There’s nothing left to say
Some things just aren’t worth saying
If you care, just walk away.

WALK ON BY … Diana Krall

KNOCKING ON MY DOOR ( A Song)

Why have you started calling?
I was better off before
You don’t really want me
Why you knocking on my door?

Said you’re feeling lonely
Told me that we’re through
Now you’re coming over
What am I suppose to do?

What the hell do you want?
What are you looking for?
You don’t really want me.
Why you knocking on my door?

Cheating is your strong suit
You know just what to do
You know just how to play me
Know  I’ll give in to you.

She’s at home …..  in your bed
Why don’t you go  back home?
Why stand in front of my door?
If you care, leave me alone.

You have no intentions
Of getting back with me
Just taking what you want to
I’m begging you to leave.

My heart’s already broken
You took my pride,  my soul
You know I can’t stand up to you
One  touch and I will fold.

I’m not what you wanted
Don’t start this all again
You know where this is headed
You know how this will end.

Don’t text, email or call me
I was better off  before
Please don’t put me through this
Stop knocking on my door!

SONG: I HEAR YOU KNOCKING by Dave Edmunds.

SOMEONE ELSE

All the way home I cried and cried
But you really didn’t care
I knew it when I saw your face
That cold and empty stare.

We sat there in silence
Nothing  mattered much to you
No hand to hold, to comfort me
There was nothing I could do.

I wanted to reach out… to talk
But  never made a sound
Knew that there was someone else
Someone else that you had  found.

I heard you on the phone with her
I could hear your voices muffled
You thought I was asleep , I’m sure
I knew I was in trouble.

I laid awake, tears in my eyes
You came to bed just after three
Thought I could  find the words to say
That might bring you back to me.

But, there was nothing more to say
I didn’t move or make a  sound
Didn’t matter who she was
This new girl that you had found.

ONE MORE CHANCE

Is it so easy to forget?
Don’t walk away, don’t go just yet
You’re not sure, just what you feel
Give me a chance.  I’ll change….I will.

All the hurt and all the pain
Let it go, I’ll do the same
Just one more chance, please don’t go
I love you more, more than you know.

It’s worth the risk, It’s worth it all
Please forgive me, make the call
Please try again, so much to lose
Please let me be… the one you choose.

I can’t take back the times I lied
I’m sorry that I made you cry.
I was so wrapped up in me
I get it now…. I do, I see.

I’m asking you,  please don’t go
If you leave , you’ll never know
That I meant… every word I’m saying
Down on my knees,  I’ll beg….I’m praying

Give me one more chance…. with you
So much at stake, so much to lose
One more try… to get this right
One more day,  just one more night.
